I hope he presents a "Clear and Present Danger" in the opposition half. Obviously if we drew Preston in the JPT he would be playing "Patriot Games", which would probably allay the "Sum of All Fears".

If this turns out to be a secret signing, does that make him a " Shadow Recruit"?

Sorry but he wouldn't fit into our team , at 6ft tall and 13st he could cause problems for the oppositions defence and might even latch on to several of those wasted crosses that fly across an empty box . :o

...to be fair Adam actually means that he's not experienced in terms of league 1 or 2 which is what Jim would prefer but neither was Jack Redshaw, Mullers or Sampson. He does however have the physical presence that we so badly need to support Mullers and Kevin up front. More than welcome if it happens by me.

Lets hope that this paves the way for an experienced back up to Baz. No guessing who I'd prefer.... :D

My only concern is if we get injuries & suspensions that will determine how well we do. IMO two strikers and one keeper is a concern at present.

One keeper is obviously a concern to Jim as well, though we have got the loan option if injury strikes. If we get Ryan we'd then have 2 strikers (3 if you count Kev.....oh, I forgot he'd probably be out suspended anyway ;)

IF Jack does come then let's be thankful that we've got 2 young strikers each out to prove that they are capable of a higher level than League 2. Sometimes enthusiasm to succeed can be a road to even greater things. IF both Jack and Mullers can form a partnership (assuming that Jim plays both at the same time) then hopefully they will create mayhem in an opponents box.

As for the keeper situation, we can always fall back on the loan market if necessary but I hope Jimbo doesn't rush into giving young Thomson a lengthy contract maybe a month to month one to see how he performs in a competitive environment.

I thought with Baz missing a full season due to a serious injury that it would be our priority to get a number 2 in just in case something happens. We can't guarantee half way through a match he is not going to get injured or sent off. I hope not but these things happen so we surely need a plan B. Not heard about Thomson if he is in Jim's plans yet. Surely a loan keeper is priority now before the season gets underway. We missed out on Lawrence Vigouroux who went out on loan from Liverpool.

I suspect that a player going out on loan from a Premiership team, will be on the basis of actually getting games, not simply sitting on the bench. Lots of options if Barry has a problem.

So how did that work out then?

Suspect we'll go back to what we did in the past, sign a youngster on a very cheap deal to sit on the bench (Shaun Routledge, Laurie Walker) with the intention that if Barry was to ever suffer an injury then we would go and loan someone to cover for him (Chris Kettings, Joe Lumley).

At the open day, they had a couple of tables with 15/16 season shirts and a football, that all the players, including Thompson were signing, presumably to be sold/auctioned at a later date. That tends to suggest that Thompson is our substitute goalie for this season. At previous year's open days, triallists and youth squad players havn't been involved in the autograph sessions even when they've been out on the pitch training with the first team.

If Baz is sent off (with an almost inevitable penalty) or injured, then that game is probably lost anyway, so it hardly matters if the subbie goalie is up to the same standard. A lot of money wasted to have someone quality like Scott on the bench "just in case" something happens in a game! Better to spend the money on a loan striker who we can actually use, rather than someone just warming the bench - it does seem that half decent goalies are fairly easy to get on loan as and when required.

Jack Ryan Signs

Postby jon MFC fan » Wed Aug 05, 2015 4:36 pm

For three months from the site [quoteShrimps boss Jim Bentley said: “Jack is a young striker who we watched in pre season and impressed.

“For a young lad he is big and brave and he did well while on loan at Stockport last season.

“He is highly rated by Preston and someone we are looking forward to working with.’’[/quote]
