The forgotton fans

You generally don't see handrails in football stadiums, but for me they make a lot of sense; particularly in modern stands like ours where the steps are quite steep and quite a few elderly fans and children use it.

I'd imagine though that the cost may have something to do with why we don't have rails though. To kit out the PMG alone would probably bring a four figure bill. Swapping seats to a lower row would probably be a more realistic solution for those with mobility limitations.

why is that then when we are talking about

Staircases
Handrails
Crowd saftey

?

Why Dont we see handrails on every stair case at football grounds anyone? Theres not hand rails on every staircase at Old Trafford and money is no object with them.

Obviously seen as an hazard and potentially they cause more harm than good with large crowds.

It's on a much much larger scale in terms of fans and the size of the structure. Despite the disaster there are handrails within Ibrox.

. The 1971 Ibrox disaster was a crush among the crowd at an Old Firm football game, which led to 66 deaths and more than 200 injuries. It happened on 2 January 1971 in an exit stairway at Ibrox Park (now Ibrox Stadium) in Glasgow, Scotland. It was the worst British football disaster until the Hillsborough disaster in Sheffield, England, in 1989.

Sorry, yes, I worded it badly, what I meant is it was a mass walkway. By us having seats, it naturally stops a mass crush.

I think I'm right in saying this was actually the second fatal incident on the same stairwell at Ibrox. But they failed to look in to why the first accident happened (pre Health & Safety days) so didn't learn potential lessons.

There may well be a reason why rails aren't fitted but I'd genuinely be interested in what they are?

PM's sent to both 'Sharpy' and 'Arnside Red' in response to the OP and subsequent posts.

We trust that everyone else will understand that the Club is unable to respond directly using this medium. We do however take all fans critisism and requests extremely seriously and will do our utmost to help and assist wherever we can.
