I can believe it. At my son's school, they used to sell sausage and bacon butties and hot dogs in the canteen at morning break and lunchtime. Under the guide of healthy eating, they stopped, but funny how they still sell other unhealthy things like doughnuts, pizza slices etc! By pure coincidence, they have a relatively high proportion of muslim pupils!

A few years ago I was on a bender in our Club bar in Saudi Arabia, and was talking to a Saudi friend of mine.

I said to him...

"Faisal, have you ever eaten pork?"

He replied...

"Peter my friend, I have never knowingly eaten pork. But it was very nice!" :)

Far be it from me to suggest that you've been taken in by yet more Daily Mail hate-mongering, but upon taking the time to read the article

‘The microwaves example is a good one. We also say, ‘Don’t put kosher or halal and other . . . special foods next to another [food] or, God forbid, on the same plate.’

Which is something quite different to what the headline suggests. It's almost like they're trying to get half-wits to share the article to their half-wit friends on facebook to get a reaction and gain clicks.

While we're at it, given that the majority of what you post on this forum isn't related to Morecambe and is just links to the Daily Mail, could you not just piss off to the comments section there and be among your knuckle dragging kinsfolk?

Personally I read the story in the Times over the weekend, and it covered the aspects quoted by morecambegeek. A fairly balanced representation, rather than a kneejerk one. If you had a sandwich in the fridge, would you for example want it next to halal or kosher meat? I don't eat meat (though I'm not a vegetarian), and wouldn't want someone to lump their bacon sandwich on top of my cheese or tuna or whatever. All it's actually about is showing a little consideration for others at the end of the day.

The paper I read is completely unrelated to this thread or any of the comments that I made. I'll happily enter into a debate about the comments I made.

As has already been stated, it's about having consideration for others. The article makes reference to several religions, but for some reason Solent_Shrimp brings the conversation round to Muslims, yet again.

I question if the forum of a small league 2 forum is the correct place for his right wing views, which far outnumber any contribution he makes regarding the club the forum represents.

When and where have these crusaders tripped up George?

Would it be similar to all those who rushed to share this link thinking it was showing Muslims receiving preferential treatment to everyone else, only for the article to refer to nothing of the sort? I mean, why else would Solent Shrimp post the link in the first place?

Im categorising solent shrimp by the articles he repeatedly links to which are all along the same theme.

The fact that the comment sections of that website is frequented by rightwing bigots is a fact. Thus my implication that solent shrimp shlould feel at home there stands.

But to answer your question i dont read any paper, theyre all biased in some way or another, but the mail is particularly hateful and spiteful feeding on peoples ignorance, fear and selfishness to drive clicks and advertising revenue. As such, i have no problem despising anyone who reads it.

Rather than taking my opinion, why not read the comments at the end of the DM article.
Anyone can comment. Mine's there, is your's?

While you're at it, also read the comments at the end of the Daily Mirror article.

Is my comment on the DM article - no, because I didn't, and won't, read below the line.

Happy to respond if you copy and paste your comment into this thread, but if you expect me to go fishing for your comment then I'm afraid I won't do it.

If you want to have a debate with people here, perhaps make some comments here, rather than trying to entice us all over to the Daily Mail website.

Debate!
I don't want a debate.
I just want the freedom to warm up a sausage roll or the like in my office microwave, without having to be questioned by some busy-body about the ingrediants.
Get a grip!

The article makes it perfectly clear that no one is stopping you from doing so.

The Daily Mail have hijacked it to make it another "them against us" story and you've fallen for it - because you're selfish, and even if you such "rules" were in place, you regard your needs as greater than those of any muslims, jewish or vegetarians who may have the misfortune of working with you.

As for not wanting "debate", why post anything on a discussion forum should you not want anyone to comment?

I'll be pleased not to comment any further on any threads you start, nor participate on this thread further, as you seem to regard this forum as a mouthpiece for your views rather than for any sort of discussion.

Misfortune of working with me! Explain please?
Anyone irrespective of their colour, religion, or food fetish is very welcome to share my microwave or fridge.
That's being tolerant, reasonable and fair , isn't it?
So long as they keep the facility clean what's the problem?

Which is, I think, Geek's point! The [non-]news story in full, makes it clear that someone has simply advised/reminded people to think about others and not inadvertently cause distress by, 'for example' warming a Muslim's food at the same time, in the same oven, as your sausage roll. The Mail & Mirror sensationalised it in to something else. No-one suggested that you need a different fridge for your ham sandwich, but a different plate would be nice.

Fair enough, but he said a bit more than that...

"A new guideline on etiquette for communal work kitchens is to be suggested to employers.

The advice, put forward by a professor of faith and public policy at Goldsmith’s University in London, stipulates that employees should be careful of the kinds of foods prepared in communal kitchens in case it upsets colleagues of certain faiths.

Professor Adam Dinham suggests not microwaving sausage rolls in a shared kitchen space. He also advises that you should not keep bacon, or bacon rolls, in the fridge if it is shared with people whose beliefs prohibit them from eating pork.

The guidelines go on to suggest that employers should serve certified Halal and kosher food at corporate events, and consider whether or not alcohol should be served.

Professor Dinham says of the scheme: “We have lost the ability to talk about religious belief because of a century of secular assumptions, and most religious belief is either highly visible and we don’t recognise it, or it’s invisible and we miss it entirely.”

He also said that when implementing the new guidelines, employers should consider new religions and cults, including Scientology, and beliefs such as veganism and vegetarianism, as well as the more mainstream faiths such as Christianity, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism.

The programme was commissioned by inter-faith group CoExist House and is set to be presented to employers by EY, an Nprofessionals services firm."

Yes he did. He suggested a different fridge for pork products and a different cooking area for the microwave for sausage rolls.

None of these things that 'could soon come into force in the work place' ever seem to actually happen.

I asked for a black coffee today, a black one, yes black, and the supposed PC thought police never came and kicked down the doors and took me away. Nor did they when we had England flags up for the world cup. Nor do they to the bloke who has a Union Jack on his desk all year round and a full English breakfast (with bacon) as his screen saver. Stop worrying about kitchen etiquette so much, it's really not that big of a deal.

If they want a separate microwave due to religious sensitivity, so what? It's only a microwave. Oh, and before you say "what's next? a million microwaves for every different faith, blah blah, what's next no pork allowed in britain? banning Christmas? where do you draw the line?!?"
Who knows where we draw the line? It's all about finding a sensible compromise, just like everything else in life. Some times these things do go to far, sometimes they don't go far enough. Finding the right balance is always going to be difficult but it's worth giving it a go.

You really need to stop worrying about the muslims, gays getting married, migrants, dangerous dogs, nonces, grand theft auto (insert latest moral panic here) etc, it can't be doing your health any good.

Plus, Britain is never ever ever going to be the way you want it it be, so you may as well get over it.
