It's looking that way. ;) But as it's a discussion forum, there's plenty of scope for twists an turns.

Interesting that first I persuaded my Father-in-law to stop reading the Daily Snail, then, out of the blue, and with no prompting, he suddenly came out with telling me he agreed with me that we should stay in Europe. How is it that, after only a few months away from a clearly and openly biased journalism, a (seriously, with reason) grumpy old man can switch to an actually quite fundamentally different viewpoint.

Peter, read the Times - it's not left wing, but (from my opinion) gives a fairly balanced viewpoint. Yes, I know it's a Murdoch paper, but the likes of Philip Collins could never be called right wing. (He's definitely left of centre, and not the only one.)

And the Sunday Times also ran the story...

"After decades in which everybody has had to learn to avoid racism and sexism, religion is set to be the new battleground."

I haven't got access to the rest of the article, or the reader comments. Have you Phil?

No, but I did read it, hence my overall balanced viewpoint. Unfortunately I can't get it back to quote any more for you since the bird's been crapping on it for the last few days.

Thanks. I hope there's a photo of Professor Doeatham being crapped on regularly by Tweety. ;)

If this one is true [which it probably is]...

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/cops-wearing-union-jack-badge-6614788

...then the idiot(s) who made the decision shouldn't be in a position of authority. How can a badge which publicly demonstrates support for the families of fallen officers cause offence?

On the other hand I agree with KFC sacking this bloke because of H&S and food hygiene...

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/kf ... py-6617125

..and that's it's got nothing to do with the fact that it was a poppy that he was wearing, or that he might upset anyone.

In any case I think that poppies are sold far too early these days. It's a month until Remembrance Sunday. Surely a week before is plenty of time, and will have greater impact. All credit to the volunteers though, but not so much credit to the RBL suited lot on high salaries and bonuses.

Are you just going to post non-stories that have an irrational hatred slant for months? I'm sure if you went in to KFC and bit in to a piece of chicken containing a pin, you'd think it was fine as long as it had originally held a poppy on a uniform? They were SELLING POPPIES IN THE KFC ITSELF!!! Don't you think if it was some kind of political correct nonsense, they simply wouldn't sell them in case they caused offence?

And offence to whom anyway? The most common name of Allied war dead during World War Two wasn't Peter or Keith. Or Dave, Charles or Bill. It was 'Mohammed' (in all different spellings). The largest volunteer army in history was the Indian Army of WW2. Thousands died fighting "for our futures", many froze to death in the Italian Campaign.

No doubt, when we all wear a poppy this Remembrance Sunday, we'll be sure to remember the sacrifice of the Muslim soldiers (or is it only white, British/US/Canadian & Australians who we remember dying for our freedom?)

Now stop trolling with non-stories and do something useful.
“Britain faces a simple and inescapable choice - stability and strong Government with me, or chaos with Ed Miliband: ".

David Cameron. May 4th 2015.
So how did that work out then?

I think you've misread what I posted.

The bloke concerned got himself sacked for disobeying company rules. When he got told to remove the poppy and pin, and why, he still refused. It could have been any 'foreign-body' attached to his KFC uniform, he'd still have broken company rules.

There wasn't any politically correct nonsense, and therefore it was a non-story. But the Daily Mirror decided to make a story out of a non-story.

I respect all war dead btw, and whenever I get the opportunity I visit Commonwealth War Cemeteries in far flung places, and fully realise that the burden was and is shared.
