Having just seen and read this thread, I have to state this is the most bizarre, ridiculous and unbelievable situation I can recollect in my 50 years being a Morecambe supporter! The advantage of having Redbridge Forest travel up here twice in 4 days being withdrawn, can only now be to their's. I look forward to seeing Trinidad and Trobago compete in the next major world tournament with such 'major' players taking centre stage! So, two teams squads with 20+ players and their supporters will be couch potatoes next Saturday and possibly the following Tuesday... And TV gets the blame for diminishing attendances! Little wonder when this type of thing can happen ...

Replay is on Tuesday 17 November @ 1945.

Where is that officially confirmed?

It has appeared in my phone diary, so Sky have entered it as that time & date, so I *expect* it to be correct, but an official source would be handy. Not that I'd ever have cause to doubt the veracity of anything Peter said, but on this occasion, I'll even accept a link to The Daily Fail web site! ;)

David Cameron. May 4th 2015.
So how did that work out then?

On the official Emirates website of course.

The projected number of travelling away fans has resulted in a trimming down of Policeman in attendance. So thanks are due to Morrisons for the loan of their local store bobby...

Tin pot!

Each tie is played as a single leg. If a match is drawn, there is a replay, usually at the ground of the team who were away for the first game. Drawn replays are now settled with extra time and penalty shootouts; until the 1990s further replays would be played until one team was victorious. Some ties took as many as six matches to settle; in their 1975 campaign, Fulham played a total of 12 games over six rounds, which remains the most games played by a team to reach a final. Replays were traditionally played three or four days after the original game, but from 1991–92 they were staged at least 10 days later on police advice.

I thank you. ;)

Also from Wikipedia...

"..This led to penalty shoot-outs being introduced, the first of which came on 26 November 1991 when Rotherham United eliminated Scunthorpe United. Replays are no longer held for the semi-finals or final".

You'd have thought that particularly in all rounds up to and including the 2nd Round that a bit of common sense could be used. LIke, if the first match is attended by [say] less than 1,000 spectators, then any replay would be unlikely to attract a greater number. So providing both clubs can agree a date, they should be allowed to get on with it.

There's quite a busy programme between now and the New Year, windows of opportunity at a minimum, and any prolonged bad weather could cause an unwanted backlog.

It's a shame that they can't get a exemption from the police for the 10 day limit.

Whatever police presence (if any) was deemed necessary would have already been fixed for Sat 14th. There'll be no more fans for a FA cup match than there would have been for the league game. So, logically, a replay on 14th to replace the cancelled league match wouldn't require any change to police resources.

There needs to be more flexibility within the rules, especially to a tiny club like Morecambe. A 10 day limit makes perfect sense to Liverpool or Chelsea where large numbers of police will be needed, but not for a couple of thousand people at The Globe (if we're lucky) with a hundred or so away fans where the only police presence will probably be a patrol car staying within sight of the ground "just in case" and to keep the road clear.

Agree entirely, which is why I said earlier mate it was ridiculous that the police insisted on the 10 day rule.

Diverting (ever so slightly) Morecambe v Lancaster City in the FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round in 1996 was the last ever, EVER FA Cup match to go to a Second Replay. One for the history books is that.

4-2 at Crusty, after 1-1 and 2-2.
Dumped by Boston 3-0 in the 1st Round.

But have they been asked and have they insisted on the 10 day rule? Do they even have any discretion to waive it and allow an earlier replay? Or are the laws/rules so strict that they don't allow the parties concerned to have a mature discussion and agree a course of action that suits all sides?

That's the trouble with laws/rules - often far too strict and interfere even when all interested parties are content to ignore them. Made worse by the officious "jobsworths" who can't bear to allow flexibility and discretion.

A four way conference call taking a few minutes could solve the problem. Morecambe FC rep asks if there are any objections to a Sat match, police rep says no, they'd rota's a police presence anyway, Dag rep says no, a Sat day trip is better than Tuesday evening, FA rep says OK go ahead!. Simples. No need for anyone to pore through the rule book and laws to find some way of being obstructive to a perfectly sensible compromise.

In that case, why not just play them in the league on Saturday and in the cup replay on Tuesday, like it should've been all along? It's not as if the two fringe players on call-ups would come back for the cup replay anyway and even if they did, would they play?

Just noticed that the club's online ticket website is showing the Cambridge match (24/11) as not available as well as Saturday's D&R match.

Anyone know if they're trying to change the Cambridge match too? Perhaps they're trying to bring it forward to this Saturday to bridge the 6 week gap of not having any Sat home matches. Makes good sense really. Far too many evening matches and no Sat matches will really make the club's finances suffer.

If we play this game on the Tuesday, then we're competing with England v France on the TV. Possibly the most stupid decision I've ever seen. Play it on the Wednesday.

That is the night of the live replay, don't suppose we will figure in that and in any case at this rate we will need boats to get to the game whenever it is. Hope Rochdale are prepared
