He's a straight-shooter, and most of what he spouts come across [to me] as often having [a very big] hint of tongue-in-cheek.

Some of us find that refreshing and/or amusing instead of the usual, predictable, boring, bland, measured, guarded, Politically Correct ''I-must-be-careful-not-to-upset-anyone'' public utterances.

His views are 'offensive' only to those with different ones and of a very Politically Correct persuasion, or to folk who've never heard of him before.

We've now reached the point where, even if it's a completely innocent or off-the-cuff remark, you fear to express an opinion about anyone without the PC brigade climbing all over you, and various groups or self-righteous individuals feigning indignation and demanding that you...

- Lose your job.

- Are prosecuted for a "hate crime".

- Or be publicly and socially ostracised.

Strangely though it's all very one way. I'm a straight, moderate, white Englishman. I can't help but notice that those same minority groups supported by the PC brigade can apparently call me what they like without fear of repercussions. Now why is that I wonder?

Hate to agree Shrimpvoices very own 'non-PC' poster but I also find the Fury a bit of a breath of fresh air, with all the guarded, robotic sportspeople out there. He's a genuine personality, but really the BBC aren't looking for that, they are looking for squeaky clean role models, which Tyson certainly isn't.

Fury's comments can be offensive but you have to understand where the guy is coming from. He's an uneducated guy from the most marginalised and insulated group in the country. Can't help thinking people dislike him for who he is, rather than what he says.

I can't see much point in the petition to get Fury removed from the 12 nominees for the BBC Sports Personality Award.

75,000 [or whatever] might have added their name to the petition. Millions haven't, nearly all of whom aren't interested one way or the other.

The public vote for the Award is what counts. If Fury comes 12th, then there's a reason.

I won't be voting for anybody because Joe Root isn't in the hat.

BBC have said SPOTY is about sporting achievement and the petition will make no difference. Meanwhile Fury's comments on the radio today make it quite clear there was nothing tongue-in-cheek about the comments, it's merely about his wife and it's down to his background. He has also tried, ineffectively in my opinion, to distance himself from comments he made about homosexuality and abortion, comparing them to paedophilia.
