Winning Mentality

Winning Mentality

Postby fulwoodshrimp » Wed Dec 09, 2015 10:01 am

The loss at Fleetwood last night is the latest defeat in a must win game that would have brought national exposure and finance. Following on from the recent FA Cup defeat against Dagenham it makes me wonder if we have a winning mentality at the club- we rarely seem to win the must win games. I just wonder if the constant bleats about "little old Morecambe" and statements like "we are what we are" prepares everyone at the club to underachieve in the big games. There seems to be a negativity within the club that inhibits the team and saps confidence . There is certainly inconsistency imo in team selection and performance that is becoming an annual feature- a bright start to the season followed by a slump before an end of season recovery. Why??

We got beat by a side with 4 or 5 times our budget in a league above and by all accounts fought valiantly to get to that point and conceded after a poor error near the end.

Wind your neck in.

This is exactly what fulwood shrimp is referring to. This talk of budgets is infuriating and largely irrelevant. Look at the quality of the squad and ask yourself if Jim is getting the best from it. Fleetwood are a quality team and I can accept getting beat by better opposition but I cant accept a lack of effort and commitment. There was no closing down, we were letting them get to our area unchallenged. Their keeper passed it short yet we didnt press and made it easy for them. Our club decided against playing the game on Saturday in order to benefit the team. Although this disadvantaged our fans we took an impressive 400 yet the team didnt turn up. Before the game Jim blamed the floods for ruining their preparation. All we hear from him are excuses. He clearly isnt the motivator we thought he would be. If we fail to push for the play offs and there is no noticable improvement then I dont think he should remain in the job.

Yes, we did well in beating Walsall, Bury and Rochdale but we lost the big one against Fleetwood just as we lost the cup replay against Dagenham. We do not win the must win games and if we keep blaming budgets we never will! It is breeding negativity in the squad- "we are little old Morecambe"!!

Jim's own assessment was that "we just didn't get going" in the post match interview.

Well, why didn't we get going?

Why did we not get going in a local derby in the semi-final of a cup we want to do well in, with a very vocal away support in good numbers?

What is it they want in order to get going?

Whats that got to do with anything, we beat Bury with a decent budget for players. We were 2nd best throughout the whole match and didn't deserve a thing last night, that is why we lost. That sums us up at the moment, we are hot and cold.

What are you on about. We have a squad full of players that barely any other club at the same level wants. Our budget is tiny and the players reflect it. You may think some players
In the squad are 'quality' but in reality they are average league 2 players at best
Get over it ;)
