There will be a feeling of gloom at the club if this doesn't go into the win column , but I am not making any predictions ;) ;)

They were last season, struggling away near the bottom, then Morecambe came to town clinging on with a fingernail to 7th

Been holding back on this, trying to make my mind up. With absolutely no conviction,

It all depends on Jim's philosophy.

If he sends them out to defend with the hope of nicking a goal it could be a "Mansfield 2014/15" and a 1-0 defeat.

If he accepts that York are dog poo and sends them out to attack it could be similar to when Accrington won 5-1 there recently.

I agree this one does depend on Jim's instructions. Another loss coupled with a poor 'non trying' game and I'll be very disappointed as it would show that Jim has no intention of changing his playing style which will only result in a low table finish. On the other hand a convincing win would still have to be followed up by a string of convincing performances. Time to get the confidence back in management, team and fans.

I would like to see a basic 4/4/2 rather than this wingback nonsense or 4/2/3/1 which imo are primarily defensive formations.
Our biggest asset is the ability to score and this is being compromised by fear of conceding.
Its not against the law to change tactics during games.............we can always switch to 4/5/1 without necessarily changing personnel.

Erm, just on a point, 3-5-2 uses wingbacks, usually Beels Willow etc who are full backs pushed out wide to patrol the wide areas from box to box.
4-2-3-1 has two holding midfielders with three more attacking midfield players, usually Wildig in the middle, Barky, Deviit, Mullin or Ellison in the wider roles, who have all played there.
So two different types of player for different roles, the latter more attacking, the 3-5-2 can be called more defensive but depends how much the wide men push on!!
Add in that in a straight 4-4-2, both full backs can overlap the wide midfielders should you be adventurous, and really they can all be attack or defensive minded!!

3 5 2 with the ball

5 3 2 without the ball

you need wing backs with good recovery pace, in order for it to work, like Beeley

Freez,
I can't believe you have used Beeley and pace in the same sentence.Once maybe, now he needs to shed some timber.
At least in a 4/4/2 IF he overlaps the winger holds back and covers. The wingback issue is amplified by the lack of pace in "the back three" restricting the attacking option, so in effect we are (almost) playing 5 at the back.
