o/t Specialist decontamination unit scrapped

Postby Keith » Thu Dec 24, 2015 2:35 pm

Not that the government are cutting public services to the bone and beyond, but how do people feel about the Fire Service's specialist decontamination unit being scrapped?

http://www.channel4.com/news/catch-up/d ... 5_4ON_FIRE

Apart from being unable to spell 'Morecambe', the report is quite worrying. Isn't the unit there in part at least, due to the risks at the nuclear power station?

Don't know how long it is available on 'catch up'.

Kowtowing to the ever increasing demands of Human Rights and Political Correctness have to be paid for.

The money has to come from somewhere. I'd rather it came from cutting Foreign Aid to countries that are known to squander it.
We all have Human Rights, but they come with Human Responsibilities. Ignore the latter and you risk losing the rights to the former.

The primary purpose of these units is for use in the event of accidents or incidents in chemical, nuclear or ,believe it or not, farming industries, so you are pushing it a bit bringing your racism into the conversation here, solent.

No, you are right. Grab a couple of foreigners, torture a confession out of them, then execute them quickly. Wouldn't want to ruin the tourist trade would we? FFS

There were concerns about this right from the first arrests and it didn't get any better, but you are right, why would anyone want to try and find the truth?

"The case against the men rests heavily on sperm collected from the crime scene, samples they say were taken from Witheridge’s body. But when the defence asked for an independent retest, police failed to retrieve the samples and one officer suggested they had been destroyed."

So yes, the case does rest on DNA that the prosecution had access to, but not the defence. Don't worry, nothing dodgy in that. No need for pesky human rights or defence, just execute them and forget about it.

How exactly, is that "Human Rights tosh"? Difficult to argue with Mr Potatohead's response. I'm sure if it was with of your human rights being flouted, you'd moan pretty bloody quickly. As it is, your latest attempt at trolling is simply to do with bureaucracy. It's up to government to fix their paperwork isn't it?

Nicely de-railed from the original subject though. Closing the specialist decontamination unit on Morecambe is because the government are forced in to spending money that they could save if only they could abuse people's human rights. How the world would work with you two in charge eh?

I agree Keith

I know Thailand and that area well, my mate as a Bar(Legends Bar) on one of the neighboring islands Koh Samui.

I have followed this case, my immediate thought was off duty Thai Policemen, certainly somebody who thinks they're above the Law.

I can understand the Families wanting closure, but was disappointed with their press interview after the verdict thinking justice as been done.

The rapist was allowed to remain in Britain under Articles 2 and 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights, which guarantee the right to life and prohibit torture.

I wonder what he and other convicted, often violent foreign criminals like him will do to benefit the country that protected their Human Rights? I don't suppose they'll get a job. Instead benefits will be thrown at him. We should rejoice that.

Why don't you agree that in order to preserve their Human Rights, individuals must exercise a Human Responsibility with the way they live their lives? Fail with that Responsibility, and off you go, no second chance or third chance.

If you have a guest in your house Keith, how do you expect them to behave? And if they don't meet your expectation, what do you do?

In order to keep the Specialist Contamination Unit open, where would you like to see the trade-off to come from? Cutting the flow of financial Foreign Aid to known crooked despots seems fair enough. As does deporting foreign crimals who abuse their own Human Rights by shirking their Human Resposibilities to those Rights.

So I've hardly gone off-topic, as all I'm doing is offering my opinion of ways to keep the Contamination Unit going.

Cut foreign aid or make Google/Starbucks/Amazon pay tax? What about the investment banks that paid 0.7% tax on their £30+Billion profit last year?

Or the owner of your beloved Daily Mail, who, although entitled (literally) to sit in the House of Lords and pontificate over us plebs, but is French for tax purposes, so he (and the Daily Mail group) don't pay UK tax. Strange that someone who was born in London, lives in Wiltshire and is personally worth about £1.4 Billion, can claim to be French to avoid UK tax? But no, let's hit poor people instead. Should someone who is worth £1.4 Billion and lives in a £40,000,000 home pay less tax than someone working on a checkout at Tesco?

Cut back the Fire & Rescue Service, underfund the NHS, stop disabled people from claiming benefits if they can't work and moan about 0.7% GDP going to foreign aid, but boost the profits of a billionaire Lord who was born in England, lives in England but doesn't pay any tax in England?

errr both ideally.

I would stop aid to the super power China and India who have more money and resources than us.

if you had a loved one with Cancer and a Doctor told you we could save them, but the NHS is skint, and you then go home and watch the News and see reports of how much we give away in aid each year.

I would love to put the vote to ordinary people in the UK and at least do a compromise by cutting aid(not stopping) and getting our priorities right.
