Enough is enough

Postby morecambegeek » Tue Jan 12, 2016 10:09 pm

I moved to Morecambe 12 years ago, and bought a season ticket for Morecambe the same season that Michael Twiss signed. So I'm fortunate to only ever really have followed Morecambe in their successful times.

I've had a season ticket ever since, but no more. After another cold Tuesday wondering why the hell I bother turning up to watch the same old rubbish that we've been served up for the best part of three seasons, I realised that I don't actually have to, and I can spend my £220 on something I actually enjoy doing.

It doesn't please me to say this, but going to watch Morecambe is something that I feel I should do, rather than something that I want to do. To be served up that tedium after several weeks with no football at the Globe was the final straw.

I'm pragmatic - I don't expect Morecambe to win every week. I don't expect them to play like Barcelona. I realise we're a tiny fish in League 2, and I am sure Jim would rather play more attractive football that the sideways and backwards stuff we're currently getting. Survival in League 2 is the key to this club's future and that has to be the main goal.

However, I have to get something in return for my ticket - some form of enjoyment.

I'll be there on Saturday, but I'm not making the effort to get home from work, throw some food into my face and sit through another two hours of rubbish the next time we play on a Tuesday night, and next season, I won't be there at all.

It's been fun (mostly), but everything comes to an end. Hopefully I'll be back one day.

Have to agree with most of this. Another dull match in an empty feeling stadium with no atmosphere. I actually bought myself a half season ticket today and by half time wondered why. Is it the players failing to inspire the fans or the other way round, but at home we barely ever seem to get going.

Problem is I love my club and feel obliged to back them during these tough times. Keep the faith Morecambe Geek and lets all pray for a bit of luck soon to cheer us all up.

Bladdy hell, Mr Geek. I don't know you and havn't agreed with a lot of the stuff that has come out of your orifice, BUT, tonight when you might have thought that the faithful might return after weeks of no football, they had got better things to do, the turnout was err sh!te.
Sums up everything, no crowd, no sponsors turning up etc etc.

Barky out for weeks, Miller out

I'm really concerned now, think we will scrape this season but what the future brings ...

Listen/ I think a little Club (as we are known) is doing fantastic being where we are, it is what it is etc. but how long can we sustain this - I am really not sure..

There have always been 2 or 3 teams in a worse position, is this what we are to rely on.. at this rate won't be long before we take more away than we do at home... the atmosphere is like a Rupert Merdoch engagement party at a Rolling Stones concert

I am positive by the way :?

The whole place seemed to not want to be there last night.

Not being funny, but haven't we got a reputation for positivity and having s laugh?

The clubs marketing needs a long look at itself now. We've got league football in a nice looking stadium.

Time an actual professional put some hard yards in and got some fans to come down and have a day/night out, it's getting beyond a joke.

Also time the fans stopped bitching about us not playing like Brazil (when have we) and get behind the club.

The stewards banning the drums because it was too noisy was equally pathetic. What next. I lived within 500 yards of old Trafford and barely heard the place, I'm not having that the houses an equal distance away can't get kids asleep over a drum that stops at 9.30 at night.

Whereas the kids attempts at banging on the stand were pathetic as a result it did at least make me laugh a bit .

Morecambe FC - wake up and claim our club and identity
Back please. Last night was shit. Though the football and result to be honest was pretty good.

Until the players stop dishing up boring drivel on the pitch and the management start to treat the spectators better, the crowds won't be coming back. As we keep seeing on here, there are long term loyal fans who have simply lost the will to keep coming to watch.

The emotional blackmail of "it's your club etc" is rapidly wearing thin. It works for a short time to cover bad patches, but when it's year after year, you can't keep playing the emotional blackmail card to cover the club's shortcomings on and off the pitch.

As for atmosphere, I presume the drummers and trumpeter were instructed to shut up by the stewards! And the club complains about lack of atmosphere!!

Last night showed that Jim and Ken DO have a strategy after all. Unfortunately, it's nothing but get the ball to Kev! Is that really the best they can do? Too many of our players clearly wanted rid of the ball as quickly as possible rather than actually try to run with it. Flemmo biggest culprit - a few times he got the ball in acres of space and could have run at goal with it, but, no, he just passed it sideways and back, as usual, losing the ball in the process.

A lot of our players are out of contract next Summer and it is clearly time for a clearout. Our long term players generally aren't up to it anymore and need to go.

Be careful what you wish for kenh, with no money, and the usual scramble for the better players between clubs who do ha e a quid or two, the squad next year is not going to get better is it.?

Just what I was thinking to be honest.

Why would (and, HOW would) these "better" players sign for us in the state we are in currently financially?

Only a change in ownership of the club and someone in the board room showing some enthusiasm will renew my interest.

The club is dying a slow death at the moment and that won't change until we get a new owner.

So lets look at the selling pitch, A football club for sale, new build, freehold, approx 6 million pounds, annual turnover 2.5 million pounds, trading at an annual loss of around 400.000 pounds, scope for improvement is infinate , as at the moment 97% of the local population are an ''untapped'' market.

Get the club on ebay and they'll be queuing around the block to buy it!

Indeed. I think it goes without saying that Mr Chairman has lost interest in the club, and the ever dwindling support from the regular fans on the terraces (regulars who don't attend anymore) and the (seemingly) stream of sponsors and advertisers we are losing / have lost, gives more than cause for concern in my eyes. The lack of a ground sponsor (Accy can do it repeatedly ok?) and STILL having the name of a long since gone company on our ground is shocking.

Something needs to change, and fast.

I spoke to a friend last night (a regular "pay on the day" fan) who had genuinely forgotten we had re-arranged the game v Exeter City for last night, such was the LACK of promotion of the game to bring the punters in. Lack of promotion when NOW, is the time we need cash payers on the day most.

Why did he forget you might ask? Interest in the club in its current state is waning. Rapidly.

On the other hand, I enjoyed for the most part last nights game (see the match thread for my comments on) and WILL be there on Saturday.

The football club will never run at a profit (very few do), it needs an owner with deep pockets who wants to be here for the fun of it and is willing to put his own money into it such as Piley at Fleetwood or the new bloke who has taken over at Accrington.

Despite all the things you've mentioned above the biggest stumbling block to any potential buyers will be the insistence of the current owner to be repaid a large amount of money he's ploughed into the football club over the years as opposed to the chairman at Bolton for example who is prepared to write off all the money he's owed providing someone suitable comes forward to take the club on.

We know this for a fact do we.... :?: :?: :?:

Suggest you sit down with the Chairman and have a chat about how he sees things going forward.

We may be surprised...... :?: :?: :?:

I am surprised Geek chose last night to say enough is enough. I thought there were genuine signs of good football going forward with Barkhuizen, devitt and miller creating good movement. I went to York and did wonder why i bother afterwards but last night I felt things were looking good at times. The substitutions suggested that Jim was going for it but then the injuries scuppered that. I thought last night was ok, the same result that liverpool got against them!

I have been watching morecambe for 20 years like geek, and have often wondered why I bother. I bet most fans think that at some point- but surely not last night. I feel motivated to go back on saturday.

Last night was alright for me too. Thought we played okay.

It was OK in parts for me too BUT as I've suggested elsewhere if we'd had the attitude we had at Wycombe we would have won the game.

Maybe with all the injuries resulting in a much depleted squad now is NOT the time to be calling it time..... :?: :?: :?:

Looks to me as though Jimbo has no faith in Doyle which is bloody ridiculous....hence the rumours about a loan full back :? :? :?

Because it was the first match in weeks and I was as bored out of my skull as I was in the matches before Christmas.

I didn't say we were bad. We were fine. It was just so BORING.

I'll go to Saturday matches between now and the end of the season, but I've been in two minds about renewing my season ticket the last two years, and tonight made me realise I need to stop forcing myself to go, because I'm starting to hate going.

I used to be a season ticket holder but gave that up before last season. I have only attended 1 game this season and found that boring and dull. I think the prices are the main concern for most people including me I refuse to pay £16 to be bored and depressed. Lower gate prices will probably get more people to attend which may have a positive affect on the team but this won't happen so I won't be attending.

Its a case of getting the balance right between entertainment and good results.

A couple of months back all the home games seemed to have about 6 goals. Unfortunately the away teams were usually scoring 4 of them ! If your a neutral then very entertaining. If your a home fan then its a bit of a nightmare.

The last 2 home games and we have conceded just 1 goal and picked up 4 points. Not as entertaining but the sort of results that will keep us in League 2 but not likely to push us into the play-offs.

Someone once said that you are better off winning the worst cup final in history 1 nil than losing the best ever cup final 5-4. That is true but our problem is we are losing or drawing the worst cup finals in history !

I think that the club need to look at the pricing policy maybe this season but certainly in good time for next season. The Omega Stand has very poor facilities compared with the PMG and yet the difference in price compared with the C and E sections in not huge when you consider that the punters in the PMG can go in a covered concourse at half time for their refreshments and watch Sky TV.
