Theres no need to get shirty spud , was just putting another slant on the argument and besides you dont even go in that end as i dont.
So you think the fans are deserting because there is no shelter , thank god you are not in charge

Fair play to Mr Potatohead FOR speaking up about our facilities behind the Omega.

I don't know you sir, and I didn't even realise you didn't go behind that goal - but I guess you have been there a fair few occasions - and yes, it is grim. So thank you for speaking up.

As I've mentioned before, putting something there now coverwise is all about the cost of course but (like I also mentioned earlier) you'd have thought something would have been put there when this ground was newly built.

It is VERY depressing being round there in the pouring rain and queuing in said rain.

If the directors had taken a look at Burton Albion's away end facilities they would realise that something decent could be put up for far less than the £250,000 that PMG quoted at the last fans forum that I attended.

Bored with sitting at home watching mind numbing TV in the evenings, I've watched a LOT of midweek Non League Football this season.

It really makes a refreshing change to be able to buy a pie (not as good as ours anywhere I hasten to add) and a brew, and then go and sit down in a warm clubhouse at half time.

Think its time we the fans do something about this. Like people day it wouldn't cost as fortune run a roof across 20 metres around the food kiosk.

With a bit of organisation from FCOM it could be up and running for next season. I would be happy to chip in £20 for starters ;) Similar amounts from a few hundred folk and we would be there. Maybe even a bit of change for a TV in a weatherproof box?

Another idea would be paint the back wall similar to what we had at Christie (pre-north stand). I'd be happy to also help out painting this when the weather improves a bit!

Back in the old days at Christie Park us fans raised the money to purchase the materials and then build the disabled stand (in 1993/94 season). So it can be done.

thankyou for your aoology Bill, the fact I don't stand behind the goals as a rule doesn't mean I never go there, I have only missed about 3 home matches in the past decade so I am well up on what the facilities are like ,and how the fans are treat, or otherwise, at christie, the paddock supporters could use jb's for an extended half time if they wished, so if the footy wasn't brilliant they had somewhere in the ground to keep an eye on the telly, a pint, and a bit of banter, this isn't possible now.

Like Mr P I don't go in the Omega, although I can't afford the red seats. ;) I would however be willing to contribute to a fund to erect some sort of temporary shelter out there, as basic though they be, Block D/E facilities are clearly superior. If the club would allow, I'll even volunteer to help erect it. If they're worried about H&S they can talk to me, as I have H&S qualifications and even sit on the South Cumbria/North Lancashire District committee of the Institution of Occupational Safety & Health. (Just trying to tackle the first obvious objection before it arises.)

I would imagine (not being in the know on such things) that it's a Health and Safety nightmare.

Even flags have to be checked and verified for fire safety AND have a certificate prior to them being put up nowadays.

Still, if people didn't use those bloody stupid flares / smoke bombs.......

For something like this, choose the materials carefully, i.e. avoid flammable or hazardous materials, (although the stand itself is pretty damn fireproof), and ensure that there is competent supervision. There are various regulations which do cover it, but in the interests of improving the facilities and getting fans coming back, I am quite prepared to provide free H&S advice as well as labour.

Simple steel frame with corrugated sheet roof made from the same colour as the rest of the stand. Totally safe, simple to construct and would be pretty much maintenance free.

Anyone from FCOM want to put this across to the chairman? Maybe even get a local sponsor to chip in a few ££.

Its the Omega Holidays Stand.

Maybe an email to Nigel could bear fruit.

I would be up to give a contribution if we go that route.

I have tried to find out without success whether fans can purchase shares in the club. If that was possible maybe all interested fans could buy some shares with the money raised being ring-fenced for the Omega facilities.

your completely wrong about the TC, at the time the club made no contact about the towns crest, if they had it would have given permission to use it.

It's not through lack of trying. The club have offers on almost every game at the uni. My mate that works there just emailed me the latest. The offer for the Mansfield game being £10 for match ticket, pint and travel!!

Fantastic offer. Don't know how well it is being communicated though

That is truly a superb offer!

Wonder if it is being promoted the same at The University of Cumbria (ex St Martins) as the bus could stop there en route from the Uni and back again.

Massive catchment area.

There was a post on here earlier this season though about it being plugged at the Freshers Fair and there being barely any take up on the offer

I hope it IS still being widely publicised up there. My son and daughter are both students at Lancaster University. I'll ask them tonight if they've seen anything around.

Id try getting locals in first because that's the bigger problem. From 1995 onwards Conference years we seemed to build a fan base that probably grew by a 1000. That has now gone and we are back to square one for what ever reason.
I believe we can do it again
1. get rid of the globe name .it's cursed. find a name for the home end so it feels like our home
2. Transport links have to be improved , new housing estates on Westgate could surely strengthen the case for a better bus service or even a rail link (don't laugh because it can be done)
3.Not enough car parking spaces
4.Better facilities behind the Home end as discussed.
5.Sensible ticket prices
6. better interactions with the fans...from the boardroom to the players. The Morecambe fc that I grew up with was a club that everybody was pulling in the same direction but it certainly isn't the case now

Agreed. The ground should have a name WITHOUT it's sponsorship.

For instance/example, like Accrington Stanley's is the Crown Ground historically. Oldham Athletic's Sport Direct Park will ALWAYS be Boundary Park.

Our ground (to my mind anyway) should have a name, and THEN have a sponsor attached. What is it's name?? Give it one we can identify with and ditch The effing Globe.

Going off on a tangent, Carlisle United secured a MAJOR 3 year deal yesterday for their ground with Newcastle Airport.
