Next seasons squad

Next seasons squad

Postby Christies Child » Sun Feb 14, 2016 1:00 pm

Irrespective of what league we find ourselves in next season (and I've every confidence that it will be the FL...just) then I expect the squad will show the results of a very busy period of negotiations by the Board and Jim.

Players currently coming to the end of their contracts will I suggest be seeking pastures new if only to see an increase in their salary as I expect that the terms we are able to afford will be matched and often bettered by both FL and National League clubs.

Loyalty isn't a word that may footballers recognise and really who can blame them when the life of a pro footballer is relatively short.

Jim says that players are playing for a contract next season. I suggest that because the majority if not all have little intention of staying at our club and therefore they have little incentive to perform to their maximum which could explain the lack of effort too frequently shown in games of late.

Personally I think it is time for a complete clear out at the club and that circumstances may in fact result in this. Too many players just don't give a sod any more and their lack of endeavour is all too plain to see which makes Jim's apparent reluctance to give Doyle a chance strange to say the least when the present incumbents of central defence have been an abject failure almost from day 1 of this forgettable season.

Jim has too often pointed the finger of blame (correctly) at the defence but does sod all about it and continues to pick the same 2 from 3 which is bad management in my opinion resulting in those players knowing full well that their names will appear on the team sheet irrespective of their latest diabolical performance.

As I understand it their are 6 players on contracts that will carry forward to next season. If Jim wants a squad of say 22 players next season then he will have a very busy time leading up to pre season.

Best of luck Jim....you'll need it.... :!: :!: :!:

PS Speculation on who we are signing will be in overdrive this close season..... ;) ;) ;)

pity the training ground is not in Preston, more central for everyday work.

When signing players, it's our location what puts some players off signing for us.

if we had our training ground in Preston, players based in the N/W would only have to come to Morecambe on match days,

it would make us more attractive recruiting players.

Rumoured that three players have refused to sign new deals put to them so far. Would be interesting to know if the deals were less, the same as or slightly more than their current package.

Let's speculate that they are Shaun Miller, Jamie Devitt and Aaron Wildig..... :?: :?: :?:

Pretty sure Wildig has a deal for next year, but assuming the initial rumour is correct I'd say you're correct about the other two.

still got a decent midfield on paper!

Parrish & Edwards I expect to re-sign

Miller & Devitt will get snapped up.

Roche?, take it or leave it, if Davies is out of contract this coming summer, and a cheaper option, then do it.

Ellison, time stops for no man. great servant.

the rest can move on, we need to freshen things up.

I expect Davies is on a good wage at Tranmere.

Does anybody else think that Edwards along with Wilson has been made the scapegoat for our shambles of a defence... :?: :?: :?:

Not sure if either will be offered new terms and to be honest not that bothered based on this season's performances.

I thought Baz had signed an extension to his contract earlier this season.... :?: :?: :?:

If as anticipated Miller and Devitt are on their way I would expect Barky to be at his agents asking what (if any) his options are.
If there's any money on the table the club will surely sell him and he won't be on much currently.

Ryan is 22yrs old, I'd expect him to come good again, and would be offered a new contract.

Laurence has had a particularly tough couple of years. Whether his form has been affected for those reasons, and whether he can get his head & form back, I don't know. He's 29yrs old so probably worth another contract.

Andy, I would expect him to have another contract too.

So I'm not sure there will be wholesale changes in defence. Individually, I'd be happy with any of those players, so why can't they play as a unit? More to the point, why can't Jim get them playing together, given that's what he did? Do we 'simply' need a strong leader at the back?

Any king of leader at the back would be a start, strong or otherwise. Beeley is worse than hopless. Jim was shouting instructions at corners etc because Beeley did nothing to organise the defence. They are completely leaderless on the pitch.

Extremely likely that Davies will be on higher wages at Tranmere than we could offer.

IMHO Baz is a better keeper and deserves another contract. If all our players tried as hard as Baz and were as competent we would be up near the top.

yeah, you're probably right.

I was getting at rumours that some of our players have already turned down contracts, and if Barry doesn't take what's on the table, we'll have to look at other options.

Add Fleming to the list too, who has/will trigger his contract clause.

I'm sure ( :?: )that Kenyon signed an extension to his contract earlier this season as did Baz.

As for Fleming, Jim did say pre season that he was playing for a new contract and (for me) the jury is still out.

I would like to see Flemming stay, on his day i think there are very few players in the league as gifted as him, sometimes i wonder if its the style of football being played / players around him that make him so inconsistent but there is no denying he is an excellent player when he is on form.

I'd be interested to know if the extra year on Dugdale's contract is in his favour or the clubs? As if it is the clubs favour I think that decision has been made for them and Dugdale will be plying his trade on his local park next season. I can't see any of the defence being offered new deals beyond this season based on performance.

The 6 that are staying, 7 if Flemming is included if the appearance clause is correct, are all young enough and should be hungry, i'd like to see Jim bring in a bit of experience to help/guide the through and see where it takes the club. Miller and Devitt will be a big loss if they are to leave on a free which leads me to think Edwards will be offered a new deal as he is under 24 so therefore the club could make a few quid off him even if he declined the offer.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Conlan and Forrester brought in during the summer either if their wages are affordable. Busy summer ahead for Jim & co, last season I got excited by the early signings and really believed the club could push for promotion this term but it wasn't to be for one reason or other. I think the management staff will have their ideas and probably already have players lined up who they would like to bring in after what could be a mass exodus come the last day of the season.

I'd release Wilson Dugdale Kenyon Goodall for sure.

I'd offer new deals to Baz Beely Edwards Parrish Fleming Ellison (reduced wages) Devitt Miller

Be silly to release Beely after how good he was last season he probably won't get anyone better. Edwards will defiantly be offered a new deal because of his age the club know if he gets back to playing like last season he could attract interest again.

Devitt an Miller will wait as long as possible before re-signing I think but even with their decent form this season I don't think they'll have clubs lining up to signing them at a higher level. Maybe other league 2 clubs but that's all I could see them moving onto.

I'd be retaining Goodall personally for the exact same reasons you mention about Beeley.

Dead right , he can play a number of positions and does them reasonably competently.
