I'd offer new deals to Baz Beely Edwards Parrish Fleming Ellison (reduced wages) Devitt Miller

Be silly to release Beely after how good he was last season he probably won't get anyone better. Edwards will defiantly be offered a new deal because of his age the club know if he gets back to playing like last season he could attract interest again.

Devitt an Miller will wait as long as possible before re-signing I think but even with their decent form this season I don't think they'll have clubs lining up to signing them at a higher level. Maybe other league 2 clubs but that's all I could see them moving onto.

Definitely offer new contracts to Kenyon and Goodall. Kenyon is young, strong and enthusiastic. Goodall is an experienced & very versatile player, not injury prone, and one of the few to try to hold the team together, direct and motivate. Maybe neither are automatic starters but both are excellent to have on the bench to cover injuries and suspensions. Just look how well Goodall has covered for Murphy - he barely played towards the end of last season, yet has played nearly all games this season.

Would have to think very hard about whether we could get players as good as or better than Beely, Edwards, Parrish, Fleming, and Ellison. None of those should be a guaranteed new contract based only on past service as all have VERY patchy form. If Jim/Ken can't get better then, yes, reluctantly, try to keep some of them, hopefully on lower wages as I can't see any being in particular demand from other clubs, and don't think they deserve better terms. But Jim/Ken really need to try to get new blood in to replace them. Parrish and Flemmo probably deserve a renewal more than the others as both can show their true abilities on occasions, i.e. Paz did a couple of cracking tackles against Oxford, but saying that, are both prone to fairly poor mistakes. Beely excellent first season with us, absolute crap this season, doesn't deserve a renewal on any terms in my book nor does Wilson. Sadly, big Kev simply too old now, his reactions are poor, his awareness is poor, can't tackle to save his life - only renew on much reduced terms and use an an impact sub striker only.

Lots of new blood needed across the pitch. We're stale and predictable and too easy for the opposition to exploit our weaknesses. If that means some more younger and untried players to play alongside the more experienced recent signings like Murphy, Wildig, Barky, Moly, etc., then I think it has to be that way. We may also have to get used to making more use of loan players rather than commit ourselves to 1 or 2 year contracts. I think Jim was brave to reduce the team size and bring in more experience like Murphy, Moly and Wildig, but injuries have exposed the small squad size and left Jim with few options meaning that whilst we started off looking excellent, it's all turned sour again mostly due to lack of alternative players. Maybe given the small budget, he needs to have a much smaller hard core of experienced players, and increase the squad size with youngsters and loanees?

I'd be retaining Goodall personally for the exact same reasons you mention about Beeley.

Dead right , he can play a number of positions and does them reasonably competently.

he's a very good passer(if not the best we have), and he's a good dig on him from long range.

however I don't think he's mobile enough, or strong enough to battle on the pitch and shoulder charge players off the ball.

and certainly to slow to play L/B.

Midfield needs a complete overhaul.

Bring in some height to win those 50 50 balls in the air and get someone who can win a tackle rather than put in nothing more than a token challenge which is what is happening at the moment.

We surrender midfield too often allowing the oppositions runners almost a free passage through.

If we get certain key players back from injury then all of a sudden the squad isn't looking so bad. A fully fit Murphy and Wildig could improve the midfield without doubt.

Every season we speculate at a 'mass clear out' which never happens. Personally, I'd release the trio of Dugdale, Goodall and Wilson. Dugdale is too slow and probably costs too much in wages, given he'd be my fourth choice centre back personally. Goodall played well against Oxford but is very inconsistent. His passing is often erratic and he doesn't break up the play effectively enough. Wilson I would just release if we were able to bring in Conlon either permanently or on a season long loan.

Nail on head hit. It is the defence that is the major issue for the side; we're too easy to score against as our defensive record demonstrates. Unfortunately one or two of the players you've highlighted are fan favourites so you won't get many people agreeing with you; somebody swore at me recently for pointing out that Parrish has been poor (I used the word shit!) this season.... another countered that the club have previously turned down £325k bid for him (a club record?).... so incensed were they that the once heralded bambino is being questioned despite clapping the fans after every game. Yes I know he is enthusiastic and committed, but is that enough?

The only defender we have at the club who comes out of the season so far with a modicum of credit and is deserving of a new deal is McGowan, and he has been given one. Everybody else needs to convince the club and management that they want to stay and that they're good enough to remain in the FL from now until the end of the season, because so far THIS season they have not.

In terms of Parrish, I think everyone would agree that he's been one of our better players for a number of years now. There's an argument to be had that one poor season shouldn't mean we should discount the previous years of excellent service. Surely we've seen enough of him over time that would suggest he's just going through a bad run of form in a team which collectively can't defend?

Agree about Andy Parrish. At 27 years of age and 8 years service I think he deserves another contract. Alongside the right central defender he could again become the defender we have seen improve and get better most years until this one.

I didn't say we should get rid of Parrish, just posed the question does his performances THIS season merit a new deal? The last few posters seem to suggest no - this season he has at best stood but has some credit in the bank from the past.

So what if he won't sign on the same terms? Does he get an increased contract offer despite reduced performance levels or do we look elsewhere? I don't think Andy is alone in this category as highlighted by KenH.
