Morecambe 1 Carlisle 2 [Ellison] Live Player Thread

A bad decision might have cost us two points but there is no excuse for the terrible defending that gifted them the winner. Their keeper was limping for the last half hour and we failed to test him. We sat back and invited the pressure on to ourselves. If their finishing had been better they may have equalised before the debatable penalty. We played for half the match, that isnt good enough.

Agree with above.
We were 1-0 and looking pretty comfortable.
Why double sub? Take one off, give it five minutes for it to settle. Do the next one.

Whether dodgy pen or not if you aren't farting around in the penalty area you won't concede a penalty!

Sounds as if we were unlucky BUT yet again we get a lead and sit back on it. We aren't good enough to do that with only one goal lead. We ask for it.....and get it!

Again, doubtful decisions re double substitution and changing the formation cost us. Regardless of the pen, our shape and formation was awful for the last ten minutes. Such a shame as the first 80 were the best I've seen in ages and the match was very enjoyable until those subs. Yes, I know subs have to be made, but why make such a big change in one go. Do it one at a time and leave the ruddy formation alone!

Now I've calmed down a little...

Poor use of subs and why do we sit back every time we go in front.
Neither of their goals should of stood which really doesn't help with my mood but 1 point form 24! We're only 10 off the bottom two now. End of the season might be squeeky bum time...

Absolutely agree. We were mugged. Never a penalty. Kenyon was fouled in lead-up to their second. 2-1 to the referee, again! Having said that, Kev should have squared the ball in that chance in the first half to make it 2-0. Second half we sat back and tried to defend a 1-0 lead, always a bad idea. We were good first half, but got to keep high tempo to the final whistle. Doyle did really well.

Carlisle were sh1te in the first half and will have had a rollicking at half time. To their credit they played more like a team chasing a play off spot in the second half. Imo they upped their game rather than we backed off. Still don't think they deserved to win though.

We dominated the first half with 62% possession and 10 shots and they dominated the second half. Deserved to be 1-1.

Again, like the Portsmouth game, I thoroughly enjoyed today particularly the first hour and gutted we didn't get more than we could have done.

First half was one of the best first half performances in a long time and our only discredit was that we didn't score a second.

Second half they were much improved and we didn't test a keeper who was limping around for the last 30 minutes injured! Penalty was a ridiculous decision but with our fragile team it was inevitable that they would go and get a second.

I think the next two away games are quite key - if we continue as we are and pick up no points, we could seriously be in the relegation battle.

I don't rate deadman as a ref at all, penalty was a bit soft, but I said as we made our double substitution ''thats gonna f#ck things up'', and it did.

If you had asked the Carlisle Manager which Morecambe player would he like to see taken out of the game it would be Devitt.

We take our most constructive and dangerous player out of the game !

Well, that explains everything. You don't rate him but the players, management & fans of every team that ever plays us when he's the ref think he's wonderful :( Funny how things don't even themselves out when he's the ref?

What we never get to know is the reason for the substitutions. Was it tactical, were they knackered, were they injured. Maybe Freez has found out in his post match interview with Jim provided he made it his first question.

I was praising the ref at HT! I thought he did really well to let the game flow despite a series of tough challenges. Also he kept his cards in his pocket. Unfortunately the one big decision he had to make he got wrong.

I don't think it was a case of referee intervention, quite simply Morecambe played well first half and could have possibly been more than one goal ahead at the break.
At the start of the second half Kev was through on their keeper and simply had to square it for 2.0 but chose to shoot at their keeper, from there we seemed to be second best allowing Carlisle to press forward and an equaliser was almost inevitable. The disappointing thing was that the players seemed to panic and rather than retain possession and play the simple ball, lumped the ball into the opposition half which resulted in the pressure returning immediately.
Devitt who was the only player to offer a spark of inspiration going forward was removed be it tactical or due to injury, but from that point it was an invitation for Carlisle to come forward and get something from the game.
I think we need to continue pressing for ninety minutes and see the game through not allowing the opposition a way back into the game.
We have been playing well contrary to results but rather than bemoaning our luck we need to go out dominate and achieve a result.

Jim blinked first, 1-0 up he should have waited to see if they made changes, then he could have countered accordingly, by going first he gave his hand away, and to make matters worse he took off our match Winner, unfortunately this is not his first cock up with subs. !

Decent first half performance but created very little in the second and invited pressure. No probs with Jim's subs but swapping attack for defense left us few options when we needed to chase the game. In the end we lost without causing any problems for Carlisle's defense.

Getting a bit worried now. I have not seen us win in ages and we seem to have totally run out of luck. Think we will be OK, but a couple of wins sooner rather than later will certainly ease the pressure.

1600 home fans was not bad all things considered. Well done Carlisle on nearly matching this too. Don't go up, we need your revenue next season!

Absolutely devastated after today. Shame Devitt went off but we do play Tuesday so good decision in my view. It wasn't Devitt going off that lost us the game today. It was Darren Drysdale's shocking decision.
