PETER MCGUIGAN RE. SHRIMPSVOICES.

Postby mrpotatohead » Sat Feb 27, 2016 12:14 pm

This observation possibly belongs in the fans forum category but I have started a fresh topic so it is seen.
Mr Mcguigan,In his opening statement at the forum, stated that in his opinion, that negative comments on the shrimpsvoices forum, that are damaging to the club, are being made on the site by so called fans that do not actually attend Morecambe Football Club matches!

Mr Mcguigan also stated that he does not read shrimpsvoices, several other top table officials stated the same.

With all due respect to Peter and the rest of the 'non readers', of shrimpsvoices, whoever relays comment to them concerning this site should make them aware that the vast majority of members on this board, DO REGULARLY ATTEND MORECAMBE FC MATCHES, and a large number of them are season ticket holders.

'twas ever thus.

Way back in the depths of time, I used to get grief from the club for not censoring the forum. We even had the club contact us, trying to get posts removed. I've never censored the forum, except where there is a possibility of posts being libellous. It's one of the key reasons why I got so frustrated by a certain ex-poster who continually made comments like 'you're not allowed to be negative on here', when quite clearly, negative people were allowed to be just that.

Personally, I think (and always have thought) that it is best if opinions are allowed out, but then, when they are unfair or in the minority, they get challenged. Unfortunately, most of the 'positive' supporters rarely post on here at the moment, so it can appear like the 'negative' posters are in a larger number than they actually are.

I would welcome the club using the forum to occasionally put their opinions across in a positive & professional manner. I also think it is a shame the fans forum didn't make better use of social media.

what gets me, there's a hell of a lot more people on that fans group on Facebook, who slag Jim off after games wanting him sacked, being negative than on here.

i would have liked PMG to have used the term 'social media' than single SVs out.

I know for a fact that one Director does read Svs on a regular basis. It only needs him to read and then discuss with his fellow Directors for the comments on Svs to become knowledge to the entire
Board. PMcG is perfectly in his rights to pass comment if he feels that the forum is too negative. Lets face it numerous comments from regular posters have claimed that the forum has become too negative which has seen the demise of a growing number of former contributors.

Keith will have a better idea of the figures than I do but I can't imagine there are that many regular posters on here. The majority of those will be season ticket holders who are entitled to their opinions. I found PMG's comments a bit disrespectful to those of us who turn up to every home game then come on here posting our genuine opinions. Don't get me wrong there are some bizarre rumours on here sometimes but without frequent information from the club what does he expect? We are all on the same side, we all want the club to prosper but if the fans aren't happy the club should be prepared to listen. There were some decent answers at the forum (the arrogant MD excluded) but criticism of SV was uncalled for.

The club should be using social media to it's advantage, not whinging about it. They have as much right as anyone to post here and I'm sure their contributions would be a welcome insight to the club.

There are plenty of ways to turn a negative into a positive, you only have to look at social media use by the likes of Nationwide and Virgin to see how, whatever the feedback, they turn it into a positive. That's not going to happen at MFC until they have a full-time media manager which, I think, would be a massive positive contribution.

No doubt someone will say they can't afford it but I'd ask, can they afford not to?

When I am chairing the directors and fans joint liason commitee I shall ensure sv.s and the club keep each other up to speed on all things shrimpy on a monthly basis.

You don't need to, they read the forum (despite what they say).

I've seen far worse on Facebook and Twitter. In fact, over on Facebook, there are already comments re today's game, criticising Jim. No worse from what can be heard all over the stadium on a matchday. It's called free speech and it's what we have in a democracy. Clearly MD has a problem with SV and he's been whinging on at PMG about it. If there was more openness and information from the club then there'd be far fewer silly comments and rumours. Social media is here to stay - the club have to embrace it.

It sounds a bit bizarre to knock a forum which you don't read yourself,,, and at the same time use these comments to take a dig at said posters who don't attend matches........so one can take a pop at a message board you don't read yourself but fans are not allowed to be negative re matches they have not attended......football is a results business, our results lately speak for themselves and perhaps it could be said that the stay away fans are voting with their feet/wallets...this is the main issue to be sorted, oh and I am a s/t holder, shareholder and bought a brick etc to help build the North Stand.......

As has been pointed out directors do in fact read it. It's like flies to a lightbulb.

Shrimpsvoices is pretty reflective of its fanbase - whinges quietly, lacks atmosphere, fairly empty and missing quite a few people from previous years. To moan about it is pointless as it merely reflects what's being said on social media and much worse being said in the pubs and bars of Morecambe, Storth and Arnside.

I don't understand it's like we are not allowed an opinion.

Imagine if they were at a club like PNE, Bradford etc there fans moan all the time and really get on their backs even during the game. Chesterfield is the same if they don't win every game 6v0 they never stop moaning. Prob because these clubs think they have a devine right to be at a higher level than they actually are.

This topic has come up again and again over the years and I think our players, manager and board actually get a very easy ride of it and if anything we are to soft on them at times.

This forum is no different to any other fans forum, the clubs has serious issues at the moment so they just can't expect us to bury our heads in the sand and pretend everything is fine and dandy and have a big love in.

If any other club were in this position the fans would be revolting, they would be far more vocal in their opinions and sometimes they even protest.

I think PMG needs to count himself lucky we are so understanding of our position.

Maybe that's the problem though people know nothing is going to change so instead of voicing an opinion they walk away in their droves and next thing you know you have lost 1000 fans.

Seriously have you listened to Radio Lancs on a Sat evening PNE and Burnley fans take it to another level.

PNE could win 6 games on the trot they loose the 7th and they are calling in like the world has ended.

Good to see Mark Dixon and Peter McGuigan behind the home end at half time talking to supporters.... Unfortunate that at the same time a fire alarm went off and the bar was shut!

If thats what they were doing then great, they are obviously making an effort and it should be applauded, I think the fact that it will be expensive to correct what was very bad planning regarding facilities in the original build is unfortunate, but t could prove more expensive not to put it right.

FFS cut them some slack.

Its obvious that they have realised how unpopular the home end is and assuming the investor joins us then they are going to do something about it.

Bag on. Shrimpsvoices and other social media only reflect the current mood of the fanbase. MFC should ignore any concerns they may have at its peril. Most businesses actually pay money to get market research that Shrimpsvoices offer for free.
