The point is though there has normally been a notification of Reserve home games on the OWS, but not this one that took place v Walsall.

Funny how the discussion has switched from the news about a possible new player to complaints about the lack of publicity for a game !

NOT that it isn't a shame nobody knew about the game (though it IS on the reserves fixture list on the official web site) but I for one would like to know more about the possible new guy.

The reserves fixture list (NB the list NOT me) says there is a ressies game at home next Tuesday 15th. at home (2.00 pm ko) against Shrewsbury Town. IF the list is right, this is the last SCHEDULED home ressies game this season !

Fair enough Neil but how hard is it to put say an article on the OWS, two posts on Facebook and Twitter? I'd say 15 minutes and if say 20 turned up at £3 would have generated £60. Not a bad return and not exactly difficult either.

Its not unfair of people to have a whinge about it. Given we have a general manager, a commercial manager, a media manager and two other staff working in commercial roles how hard is it to do it?

Put your customer at the heart of everything you do. Not your mates, not those with the most money, not a certain type of customer but understand and deliver for all your customers. Happy customers, mean more customers, means more money.

When we moved stadium the club moved to make more money not to provide something better for its customers. That sadly is the legacy of the move.

I believe that really it is something the club should be doing!

I suspect that they regard that £60 as chicken feed and not worth the effort, whilst they can smooze businesses to get far more than that from selling a few tickets or renting out the W&L. They probably regard reserve matches as a PITA because of the extra staffing costs of manning the turnstyle, the refreshment counter, marshalls, etc. Completely the wrong attitude. If they aren't going to make money from reserve matches, they should play them behind closed doors, not have this half hearted attempt.

But that's the problem with the commercialisation of the globe. It's not just the, relatively modest, amount of income, it's building up the core supporter community again that the management just "don't get", whether it's the poor website, lack of engagement in social media, not answering phone calls/emails from supporters, etc. A tiny bit of effort could easily double/treble the attendance at reserve matches - a few posts on twitter and faceache, a "news" article on the OWS so it gets included in the hopeless weekly newsletter, a list of fixtures on notice boards around the globe on matchdays - it's not rocket science and costs peanuts. A few more dozen watching the reserves, will encourage supporters to get to know each other again if they don't stand/sit together anymore with the new ground, create a growing community again with meeting new people, and of course, sell more drinks and pies, so even more revenue.

They either have to make the effort to get more supporters or they need to close the doors. Saying that they're listed on the OWS is a pathetic excuse (you have to actively know where to look and purposely go looking for it) - that's like saying that Coca Cola don't need to advertise/market because everyone knows about their drink! Marketing is all about "selling" the product, getting and keeping it in front of peoples' faces, making people want to buy the product. As far as the football side of the club goes, the management and marketing dept do none of that.

It's not just Morecambe FC...

The local Co-op to one of our offices used to sell beetroot bread. Sounds odd but it was lovely. Regularly the staff in the office have lunch together, someone nips to Co-op and gets bread, salad, cheese etc. They've not had beetroot bread for ages, so the other day, the Team Leader asked one of the Co-op staff why? They said [and I promise I'm not making this up] "it was too popular and sold out too quickly, so we stopped doing it". Basically, they couldn't meet demand so they didn't bother trying.

We still shop there, because it is the easiest & most local shop. And we buy a different type of bread, so they haven't lost any sales or profit.

Some businesses appear to take their customers for granted. They will shop here anyway and they will buy a different type of bread, so why have the hassle of working harder to give the customers what they want, when we can do less, knowing they will come anyway? But eventually, customers who feel like they are being taken for granted find somewhere else to buy their bread. Some (like us) will keep going 'cause we're 'hard core' fans of the Co-op who find it too convenient to go elsewhere. But one day, we may get ourselves organised enough to have a rota, taking it in turns to buy the lunch somewhere else. Co-op are just relying on us not doing that... but one day...
