Alan Spavin RIP

Alan Spavin RIP

Postby Christies Child » Wed Mar 16, 2016 6:13 pm

It's with regret that the death of former MFC Manager Alan Spavin has been announced today. Alan was a PNE midfielder and became the Shrimps manager when he retired from the full time game.

After leaving the Shrimps he went to the US and helped to establish the game with other fellow former full time pros.

So sorry to hear of the death of Alan Spavin. I remember in the late 60's he ran a sports goods shop and had the contract to supply schools with sports gear. He often used to come to the schools delivering your order. He was a very pleasant, friendly person. RIP Alan

Did they not have a shop on the corner of Regent and Clarendon Road in Morecambe?

Was it not Spavin and Kelly that became Morecambe sports centre on Morecambe Street in the 60s. RIP Mr. Spavin.

A true gentleman.
He occasionally picked me up from home to take me to training at Christie Park, I remember once during a reserves V 1st team training session, 1st got a penalty, Tony Webber took it, Spav shouted, save this your in the 1st team Saturday. Needless to say I didnt even see it, let alone save it lol.
RIP Alan.

So sad to hear this news---I used to open the bowling with Alan when we played for St. Lukes cricket team in the Lancaster & District League during the 50's and early 60's (before he started his soccer career at PNE). R.I.P. Spav.
