Player thread v Bees at Globe....

I'm still trying to work out how their goalkeeper managed to stay on the field after bringing down our player... :?:

He wasn't last man, there was a covering defender behind him?

On todays game, we weren't incredible but we were pretty damn excellent, partially helped by a very poor Barnet side but I've seen us play many games in the past against very poor sides when we haven't taken advantage so very well played to the lads today.

Miller, Barkhuizen and Fleming were excellent today...lots of pressing and tidy passing (shadowed by Fleming's moronic moment, we all know) really helped us put Barnet under a lot of pressure. I get what has been said about Barkhuizen, he isn't that great kind of creative player that Devitt is but with his pace and skill he is still a very big threat to opposition sides and we would be very foolish not to use him. Molyneux showed flashes of what he can do with the pass for Miller during the build up to the penalty and the assist for Kenyon. However, many misplaced passes was a downside for him, although I felt many were down to lack of support from team mates or just lack of confidence to be more authorative with the ball.

Overall, I think this game should serve as a big message to Jim. It's inevitable our fragile defence, whether we play defensively or more attacking, is always going to concede one or two at least. But it doesn't really matter if we can go out as our (as we showed earlier this season) our free scoring selves, often scoring 3/4 a game. Yes, sometimes this is going to backfire when we won't get quite as many goals as usual or we concede a few more than usual but that's just football. And compared to how we so often still lose when we play our defensive tactics, we may as well go all bloody out!

Barry was sent off at Orient and he had a defender behind him! I thought he should have been sent off.Not long after the ref missed a clear handball from Kev's header too/ Another ref to add to the list (if he isn't already on it).

Despite those two incidents, I thought he had a pretty decent game. There was mixed opinion around me as to whether he should have been sent off. Personally I thought he should have. I think the refs assessment is how far ahead the ball had gone? The ball was heading in a 'wide of the goal' angle, so was it a 'clear goal scoring opportunity'? Surprised it wasn't even a yellow card. As for the handball for a second penalty, I thought that was clear cut, the arm was in "an unnatural position", i.e. out from his body. But he wasn't a bad ref.

Who said 'football is a funny old game' and by judging yesterdays game he could well be right?

We've played well...and lost but yesterday we played indifferently ....and won. :?

For me we played too much hoof ball out of defence and had it not been for an inept Bees in front of goal and 2 early goals from us I could see us having struggled to get a positive result.

The early goals knocked them back but at least they continued to play it on the ground and at times give us a footballing lesson. It wasn't until Gash who we tried to sign a few seasons ago came onto the park did they pose any serious threat, but both footballing and possession wise they still showed our frailties and our continued obsession with hoof ball tactics.

However the welcome points finally guarantee our league status for at least one more season BUT Jim (assuming that whoever the new owners are decide to retain his services) will have a his work cut out rebuilding the squad next season with so many rumoured departures in so many key areas.

Do you think Jim and Ken work hard, Niel?

Never disputed that they don't work hard, in fact having seen them on the training ground numerous times I know they do....but that still doesn't get over the fact that their negative tactics and the constant use of hoof ball are having a serious effect on home gates. That and Jim's constant negativity in interviews (which even you have commented on) are of concern.

Funny how each person sees a match differently. Most on here say we played well. Martin Allen said we played well. You think we played indifferently. At least we all think it was a good win.

I thought your mantra was ''hard work always beats talent when talent doesn't work hard'' ?

If that was the case we don't need any good players or decent tactics, surely?

Ken was working hard in the bar after the game yesterda! Passing out pies, going round tables offering soup, meat, buns!! Chatting and joking with the fans! :D He usually growls while he makes his coffee and glares at everyone across the bar. What a difference a good performance makes :D

Imagine what it would be like and, more to the point, where we would be if our talented squad played / worked to its full potential on a regular basis which on too many occasions in the past they have failed to do.

Down to the managers team/formation choices rather than players.
Wingback shit or 4/2/3/1; they worked briefly then were sussed and we stuck with it as it used to work.
Tacticly inept - you CANNOT at our level expect one tactic to work all the time unless man for man you are the best team.

Thank you experts.
What game you were watching second half Neil? They went two up front and bombarded us from all angles, a complete opposite of the first half where their "total football" was exposed time and again by our midfield closing down and nicking the ball back. From Holland 74 to Wimbledon 87!!
But that's my positive view, as WE were 2-0 up at half time, not them!!! :D

But that doesn't suit anyone's argument.
And we set up yesterday 4-2-3-1 again, and it worked!!! :D

Same game as you....one of the experts.... ;) ;) ;)

Still maintain that it was hoof ball from us for the majority of the game and that they looked more accomplished when they played it on the deck.

However we won and that's all the record books will show....and that's really all that matters.

It was a much better performance than many this season.

Big Kev celebrated his contract extension with a good performance and certainly covered some distance yesterday showing that he is revelling in the role he has in the team. I lost count of the number of Barnet attacks that he broke up and then cleared the ball usually constructively.

I think we had a glimpse of the future with Conlan at left back and Beeley at right back although "AJ" will push them all the way for a place.

If we had performed like that all season we wouldn't have had some of the shocking home defeats we have suffered , Mansfield , Newport (how bad were they !) Carlisle , Dagenham (cup) , Leyton Orient particularly spring to mind.

I remain convinced it was 4/4/2 with Miller & Moly up top. We see the same thing differently.

It was on my phone in about 4pt font. I just think you were a bit over the top with your 'speak English', 'say it in English' when one letter out of about 700 was wrong. That'll be the 'lot to drink' then.

The ball was being played out of their box, Kev was pressing the man on the left; Miller the man in the middle with the ball; Fleming was closing down the man in front of him; and Barky was stood about 20 yards from their left back who got the ball and had all the time in the world to play it. If he'd pushed up they would have lost it or had to hit it long. Just proof the pressing worked. As someone else says he's learning and he's young and it's clear the areas he needs to improve on.

There's a bit of difference between hoof ball and chipping the ball over their defenders.

A quick one for the anoraks.

The Barnet keeper Graham Stack. Was he the Wolves keeper when we won 3-1 at Wolverhampton in the League Cup 2007-08 ?
