That's how I saw it too, some superb, defence splitting passes.

I thought it was mainly 4-4-1-1 although lots of fluidity.

It was on my phone in about 4pt font. I just think you were a bit over the top with your 'speak English', 'say it in English' when one letter out of about 700 was wrong. That'll be the 'lot to drink' then.

The ball was being played out of their box, Kev was pressing the man on the left; Miller the man in the middle with the ball; Fleming was closing down the man in front of him; and Barky was stood about 20 yards from their left back who got the ball and had all the time in the world to play it. If he'd pushed up they would have lost it or had to hit it long. Just proof the pressing worked. As someone else says he's learning and he's young and it's clear the areas he needs to improve on.

Is that 'chip it over the defence' when we win......but 'hoof ball' when we loose.... :?: :?: :?:

Which ever on Saturday we still won and that's all that mattered... :!: :!: :!:

What's the difference between a "Long Ball" and a "Long Pass"?

A long pass is aimed for a player to meet with his feet and/or run on to. A long ball is a hoof upfield with no clear target, which in our case usually ends up giving possession away. That's my take on it, anyway.

Yup, that's my view. A long ball on to the head of a huge centre forward works. A long pass for a fast forward to run on to works. A big hoof to a fast forward's head is usually met by a big defender and loss of possession. On Saturday, we had a lot of good passes, the pass for Miller's first & Devitt's long pass for Stockton to score were both well weighted, accurate passes.

The Wolves team that won trophies many years ago was known as a "long ball team" , but they were long passes , not hopeful punts.
I thought we played decent football on Saturday , it was more like the team we had in August/September that caught teams out on the break with quick passes even if they were long passes.

It's all about the Right Long Ball or the Right Long Pass for me. On Saturday it was pleasing to see some of these Long Balls and Passes working and bearing fruit.
The pass that freaks me out is when a Shrimps defender or two (you all know who I mean) has time on the ball and then overhits an aimless pass which goes for a goal kick to the opposition or just gives away possession.

Showing your age now my friend. ;) They were a great team, beating nearly all foreign opposition.

So..if the win was all that mattered, why did you feel the need to winge on about playing indiffrently, hoofball (which it wasn't) and difficulties keeping players?

I stand by everything I posted about the style of football or should that be hoofball and Jim will be having a hard time rebuilding the squad assuming that those offered contracts who have refused to date do go.

So you only enjoyed the result, not the manner of getting the result? You're surely not suggesting that the passes that led to two goals and the penalty award were simply 'hoofed' up the pitch?

I really enjoyed the style in which we won, just as much as the victory itself.
