Bentley out

Would you say Jims budget is at a Conference level? I honestly think Jim would struggle to get this team in to the top half of the Conference and doubt if he would get it out of the conf north! Yes he can only pay peanuts but he lacks the coaching ability and tactical knowledge to get his monkeys to win football games.

People keep saying thank God for the two awful teams that have gone down this season. One of which has beaten us twice and if York beat us on the last day, they will have done the double over us!

He hasnt lacked it before the second half of this season as he? Its all about the sameish group of players not responding any more, happens every club. Some managers can bring in better or as good playerrs to get over that.
Playing budget which wasn’t great in the first place been cut by a chunk each season he’s been in charge and hes kept us in the league. I say no manager could cope with such cash drops and be expected to keep a side in the same division.
Sack him if you like but without more fund from somewhere, we’re on a downward curve whoever is manager.
Weve done double over Wimbledon if you want to quote stuff like that.

My point is that we are thankful for the under performing York and Daggers but they are no worse than we are. I think somebody referred to them as dire on here which begs the question, how bad must we be when you look at how we performed against them!?

My point, and my only point in all this is you can argue tactics selections manager whatever you like. None of that is the real issue. Investment has been slashed every year whilst this manager has been manager and over four or five years that cant end in anything else other than a slump. How we've stayed in the league is the big shock not how we've ended up so low.

Our players are small, some are chubby and some could do with a burger! Name me one player who has become a better player through being coached by Jim and Ken?

This season has been a disaster and Bentley has to shoulder some blame.

Forget the usual whinges about budgets (which only goneshrimping has been able to factually support) this team should be doing better. We have had the benefit of a proven goalscorer (Miller) and Devitt with the most assists in the country and we are still unlikely to finish with less than 50 points.

I dread to think how we will do next season without the two of them.

So forget the Factual truth about the budget, lets whinge about the manager more like.
This team should be doing better, maybe, but it's isn't currently.
There are currently 92 clubs in the league, we are joint 92nd playing budget wise, yet 89th, and still in the league again next season. It's not been good, but we are still here.
See the PMG interview regarding what's hopefully occurring and just maybe there could be some light at the end of the tunnel??

But as has been pointed out with Accrington, it's not fair to judge Jim by the exceptions to the rule so to speak.

For every Leicester / Accrington there are about 10+ other examples of big clubs being in a complete mess who would kill for a manager to have done as good a job with their club as Jim has with ours.

I watched the PMG interview and it is a good effort on your part Freez and it was nice to see the Chairman being open and informative. The only trouble is that we have heard it all in the past and nothing has ever come of it. Sorry for being so down on the club but its just horrible being a Morecambe fan these days

Budget aside, Bentley should be achieving more with the players he currently has to work with. He clearly cant motivate/inspire players once confidence has dropped which for anyone who has ever heard him speak will not come as a surprise. We have been reliant on two players who will probably leave to join a top L2/1 team. Of course there is no guarantee a new manager would do any better but with Bentley in charge there is only one direction we are heading :(

You cant jus say 'budget aside'...then carry on. If we had the budget we'd be building a side round the few good players we have, who Jim brought in, instead of waving them goodbye. We'd have got rid of players who aren't doin it anymore. That's what managers who are at clubs a long time do. Jim cant. Cos he hasn't got the budget.

What are we going to do about then Trev?

We are always going to be one of the sides with the smallest attendances and as such, we are always going to be one of the sides with a smaller budget (unless we are bankrolled by someone). This isn't something new to me, nor to you, nor to anyone on this forum - so why is it an excuse now when most of us thought we were bound for the playoffs during pre-season?

Do we just accept we don't deserve to be here? Accept shite performances, shite atmospheres and shitty walks out down Christie Way where you wonder why you even bother? Because there are many 100s of people who appear to have already walked away.

The point I am making is that this group of players, regardless of what they are paid (which nobody on here is able to confirm), is better than a 22nd place finish. I assume, like me, you were there in September/October to see why. That is why this is an underachievement. Is that the players fault? Yes. Is it Jim's fault? Yes. Are there other factors that have partly come into play? Yes. But fundamentally the most importantly thing is that we acknowledge it has been bloody horrific and not bury our heads in the sand over accepting that its just because we have a small budget. Why? Because that isn't going to change - but our Football League status might.

This.

I fully agree that the team has underachieved this season and we have problems. But sacking Jim is a knee jerk reaction to a few months of bad football over a 5 year successful spell. It can be turned around.

There will be those who don't agree that Jim has been successful and say "the football has been boring for years", "bring back the days of Christie Park". I'm afraid those people just won't be happy unless we get relegated to the Conference North (where we might dominate the league) or bank rolled and promoted. And even then, they'll probably whinge when we're finishing 20th in League 1 that we're not taking teams apart and that we've 'no ambition'.

You aren't wrong.
It has been bloody awful for manager, players and supporters since Xmas, nobody is denying that.

We do need fresh investment, hence the club being up for sale.
We did start off scoring and conceding but winning, now we are conceding and losing too many, badly.

I agree that on paper with the we could be better than where we are!
Is the small squad affected by injuries and suspensions? Yes. Do we have the resources to go out and sign six players on wages in the transfer window like Accy? NO!

Does loss of form affect even bigger clubs? Yes! Look at Portsmouth and Plymouth in the past six weeks?

You thought we were bound for the play offs? Based on what? Pre season friendlies?
So you are fed up as we haven't, we are all fed up with where we are though.
I'd like to see us a have a go for them with a new owner, but who knows what will happen.

We all care, that's why we post!

City Shrimp - Has it really been a successful 5 year spell? I remember feeling disappointed this time last season even though we finished mid table. Every season under Jim we have fallen away, which says a lot about Jim's motivational skills or lack of them. He has made our players worse. Not too long ago a defence with Wilson, Parrish and Beeley in it would have been considered a strong one. These players have gone backwards under Jim's management.

Based on the first two months of the season. Loss of form? November to April is too long to be considered form!

I accept that!.
However performances were not that bad, even during our eleven games with only a draw period, and we didn't get hammered in any of them, and looked to be just a little slack at the back and missing chances in most of them.

However, we are now getting hammered and don't look like getting much recently I accept that too.

Absolutely Freez, and while I am known to be a bit of whinger amongst colleagues, particularly after a Morecambe defeat, I like to think I offer a reasoned debate on here.

I worry that people are hedging their bets too much on new investment. Firstly it is not in anyway guaranteed and secondly, we don't know what type of investment it will be. I disagree with you on the Accrington point because my understanding is that the investment has come by way of capital investment and the clearing of debts NOT an increase to the playing budget. That is the investment that PMG is talking about for us too; i.e. structural investment which in turn may lead to increased sustainable revenues. That could take a couple of years to filter through, as is the case with Accrington as it is dependent on a new stand being built for instance.

A good article to read: http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sp ... s_history/

The scenario Coleman explains there is exactly what should have resulted in the sale of Christie Park and the building of the Globe but for whatever reason it hasn't happened.

Regarding the play off comment, I am sure it wouldn't take me long on here to find posts of predictions of where we might finish. I was stupid enough to put money on us winning the league (with a handicap) and on a top 7 finish, but I know for a fact I wasn't the only one to do that (marky_no1?). I'm not fed up of not reaching the playoffs, but I am fed up of not enjoying watching the club anymore. It is only through blind loyalty that I still go and I doff my hat to people like yourself who are committed enough to travel away every week too. The problem is, the club are losing people like me and you must admit that is quite alarming?

I don't think anyone thinks it's been anything but bloody horrific. The difference is what we think can & should be done about it?

Yeah, me too. I don't gamble but I felt so sure that we were better than the bookies thought, that especially with the handicap... Bookies were right. They had us as the third worst team in League Two. With two more games to endure, it looks like they will be spot on.
