The summer transfer window

The summer transfer window

Postby Kendalshrimp » Mon Apr 25, 2016 3:29 pm

Let's get this one started abit early with a few exits expected in the summer, who would you like to see go and what players realistically would you like to see come in ? Even with a new owner I doubt we'll be the money bags in the division so hopefully we'll recruit well this time round.

I expect Dugdale, Parrish, Goodall to be following Wilson out the door and maybe Miller and Devitt to leave by choice.

Id like to see a new experienced centre half come in, a young goalkeeper as back up to baz, a solid left back a play maker and a striker who can hold up play and get 15-20 goals a season.

I wouldn't offer deals to any of the players who are out of contract apart from Miller & Devitt (although I don't expect either of them to sign) and Doyle.

A complete clear out is needed, especially if Jim is going to be staying as for whatever reason they don't appear to have been playing for him the past few months.

Experienced centre back to partner Doyle and full back for either side.

A midfield enforcer with height who can win balls in the air.

Striker with potential to be a 20 goal a season player and a speedy winger.

PLUS a vocally loud leader on the field.

Don't really want much do I....but no point in aiming low... :!: :!: :!:

I'm afraid for me it would be a clean sweep of the defence with the possible exception of Parrish and Edwards.

I would release Beeley who is a shadow of last season and Doyle who I see as Conference North standard but not up to the quality strikers we face in this division. Stevenage were an awful team but they tore our defence to shreds.

We ask for a midfielder enforcer every year!!! it's always been our week spot ever since we got promoted 10 years later we still haven't resolved the issue.

Murphy fits that description. He will be like a new signing.

Agree with this but, keeping Edwards?

You say Beeley is a shadow of last season which I agree with, but Edwards is the same if not moreso.

Edwards was our best player at Stanley last week and he has youth on his side still only 22 Beely is about 28. If we released Edwards he'd walk into another club in league 2 on the back of how many games he's played for his age and if he signed for someone then got back on form like he was last season the club would go sick. Similar to amond last season no doubt he'll get a good move this summer.

I'd keep Doyle and Edwards, but as the substitutes for two new experienced central defenders rather than regular starters. They're not yet good enough to cope with regular L2 football and both will develop with age. A bit unfair to throw Edwards in at the deep end these last two seasons, moreso this year without an experienced partner like Hughes.

I'd go with that, but also think we need specialist fullbacks, not into asking players to play out of position at R/B like Parrish and Barky even

it's defenders we need.

not bad at attacking, I expect Wildig to fill Devitts boots and Barky to play as a striker working the channels

oh and Murphy will be like a new signing, and hopefully might help get more from his mate Molly.

Strong, solid spine we need, all the chopping and changing is half the problem. New defensive midfielder is priority in my opinion.

Baz is fine in goal so that's no issue.
We need to tie up Doyle's contract as he's by far the best defender we've got and will only get better with experience.
Edwards is another who will get better with age/experience so he needs to be kept.
Then to complete the spine we have Devitt behind Miller, but problem is that will them two sign new deals? If they do then we don't really need MASSSIVE changes. Just a bit of tinkering and maybe a new manager might help ...

We had 'the best 2 full backs in L2' then got Molly to play in front of Wilson, thinking wow how good will this be - it all went tits up somewhere...
As for a bit of tinkering - bladdy hell we have tinkered nearly every game :(

Settled side with our 'best 11' for me, then players can get used to their positions and have some idea what is going on
Enjoy yourself.... It is later than you think

Molly is (according to wiki ) a defender so playing him in that capacity with our real captain when he returns would be a start.Defensive mid with Wildig as playmaker and a big mother iwith Wildig to boss the midddle.
The big mother is the first missing piece for me, build around that.

Sometimes football is made out to be more complicated than it really is. There are two parts to a football match - when Morecambe have possession of the ball and when they haven't, so we need players to deal with that. For many seasons we have not had players who can really tackle or head the ball in the midfield area but we have usually had players who can play a bit in possession.
This season we always seem to have been outmuscled and outnumbered in midfield and that has led to all the pressure coming on to the back four and keeper, and with younger defenders it has been a real problem.

So, IMO my wish list would be for at least one experienced older centre back, one or two experienced full backs, an experienced midfielder who would be good support to Murphy in midfield in the enforcing areas, a decent winger to add variation and a big strong striker.
So, contracts permitting, I would keep the younger ones and that includes Edwards of whom I have been very critical of this season. I do recognise that he has the potential but just lacking confidence at present.
I still think Molyneux has plenty to offer, it just hasn't worked for him this season for whatever reason.
I would play Barkhuizen more centrally, and Stockton could become the big strong striker we need.
I see Ellison as a bit part player next season, who wouldn't start so regularly.
We need Wildig to get back to the player we saw early season, he was outstanding back then.
I think Kenyon has done quite well this season considering everything, and he could be even better with Murphy's influence. I still believe in Fleming's abilities in midfield with the right players around him, and I have liked the look of Bailey and Bondswell on the rare occasions they have been seen.
Obviously it would be great to keep Devitt and Miller, but that seems unlikely at the moment.
The ones I would want to leave : Beeley Dugdale Mullin and Oliver.
Whatever happens, I am "Morecambe till I die" and will still be there next season whoever is manager and whoever takes to the field wearing the only shirt that counts for me.

We all know what we need, including the manager. I reckon he'd have got rid of half the team and brought half a dozen in Janury. But, at risk of repeating over again how do we get better players in when he's less cash to play with than when he signed the current one's?

Nobody expects us to sign world beaters, its part of the deal of being a Morecambe fan! What should be happening is the Manager and staff should be coaching these players better. They should be more organised and made in to a team. Unfortunately this is not happening at our club hence the huge underacheivement we have seen in the last two seasons. As long as players try and work for the club, Morecambe fans have always been supportive of the team.

Sammy Mac signed players that did not even look like footballers but they were what the team needed at the time. Adams, Sorvell and Blinky hardly set the world on fire but when they came here they totally raised the bar.

Danny Adams could teach his successors how to defend. The ball might get past him , the player might get past him , but not both of them !

Danny Adams was fantastic but who in their right mind would have signed him? It was pure inspiration from Sammy and Mark Lillis to bring him in! One of the best defenders i have seen play for us, loved everything about that man!

But it was Jim who brought them all in. Even with limitless money, you can't just bring people in, then get rid of them at the drop of a hat. Jim must have thought they were the right people when he signed them, so what's changed? If he'd inherited players from before his time, then your point is valid, but every single player was Jim's choice, and I'm sure a lot of people on here will agree that most looked good at first and have seemed to go downhill whilst they've been here!

Coley signed all Accys players, didn't stop him tinkering and shipping some out and getting half a dozen in during the window?
It's what every club does, look at some of Van Gaals signings, Pellegrinis signings, they pay massive money and wages and the players don't work out as they hoped and these clubs have the best of everything, coaches, facilities etc, but they still get dropped and suffer poor form, possibly leave?

My points valid anyway Ken. All managers bring players in some come off, some don't, others did but don't any more. Managers with steady budgets, or increased ones, can bring in as good or better replacements. If your budget is cut year after year, its just logic that your going to struggle to bring in new players better than the ones you want to ship out. And each year it gets worse. The players this manager has bought in gave kept us in the league but the cuts are bound to take there toll eventually.

Sometimes you're unlucky to get a heap of injuries and bad signings in one season.

For the poor signings and the injured ones this season - Dugdale and Murphy the most obvious.

For Jim Harvey read Ruffer and O'Connor. For Sammy McIlroy see Rundle, Paul Scott, Capaldi, Aley and Shuker.

I'd agree though that Jim hasn't got the most out of his squad this season.

Steve Walters and Andy Milner were the two big ones for Harvey. Both cost big money, one was rubbish and the other a crock.

O Connor, was a decent player when he was played in his proper position, centre forward, but got an injury and left to play back up scotland with Q O S where i think he had a good run of games.
