O/T England Euro '16 Squad

O/T England Euro '16 Squad

Postby RedRedWine » Mon May 16, 2016 11:56 am

Woy has released the provisional 26 man squad, which will be cut to 23 ahead of the tournament.

Full squad:

Goalkeepers: Joe Hart (Manchester City), Fraser Forster (Southampton), Tom Heaton (Burnley).

Defenders: Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Chris Smalling (Manchester United), John Stones (Everton), Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur), Ryan Bertrand (Southampton), Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur), Nathaniel Clyne (Liverpool).

Midfielders: Dele Alli (Tottenham Hotspur), Ross Barkley (Everton), Fabian Delph (Manchester City), Eric Dier (Tottenham Hotspur), Danny Drinkwater (Leicester City), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Adam Lallana (Liverpool), James Milner (Liverpool), Raheem Sterling (Manchester City), Andros Townsend (Newcastle United), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal).

Strikers: Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), Jamie Vardy (Leicester City), Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool), Marcus Rashford (Manchester United).

Bit of a surprise to see Delph, Wilshere, Townsend and Rashford in the mix. Henderson has injury question marks surrounding his selection also, which probably comes into Roys thinking by selecting only 7 defenders (all of which must surely be on the plane) and taking additional midfield players.

So what purpose does Rooney serve nowadays? He won't know what to do under the heading "striker"

Because he plays for a big club? Same probably applies to Rashford over Defoe. Absolute joke that Rashford is anywhere near that squad.

Rashford scores goals in big games! and he's faster than any other England player, even Vardy.
.
also Rashfiord should get more goal scoring chances for England than Man United because there to busy passing the ball side ways and back, so when LVG is challenged by reporters and lack of chances he can say 'yes! but we had 70% possession ' he's an headcase.

anyway back on topic, and I agree Delph?

quite liked the look of Jonjo Shelvey when he played for England, and know Newcastle have been relegated but didn't stop Townsend being picked.

This is the squad of 26. Three players will be dropped from this squad and placed on the standby list

Ok... the article suggests that the 23 could be drawn up from scratch rather than a case of 3 being dropped from the 26, but I bow to your superior knowledge. ;)

You should be made to earn your place by playing consistently well over a prolonged period of time. There is a bias towards players at the larger clubs.

that argument is because of the superior standard of football in the Champions league, its considered just as good if not better than Internatinal football.

Sven Goran Erikson openly admitted he preferred players with champions league experiance.

I know but that was initially in reference to Rashford after CC claimed I was 'miffed 'cause he plays for Man Utd'.

What the hell has Jack Wilshire done to deserve a place? Not exactly a world beater and one game under his belt. Woy looks after his favorites eh?

I'd have taken Andy Carol as he adds something different to the squad.

never seen Rooney as an out n out striker, always seen him as a second ssupporting striker, like
Peter Beardsley for England with Gary Lineker or Kenny Dalgliesh and Ian Rush for Liverpool.

A Vardy and Rooney show

Not doubting his ability I just think you should have to prove yourself in your domestic competitions first.

We are doing what we always do, taking too many injured players or players lacking match fitness.

Wilshire
Sturridge
Cahill - playing with injections and due to the lack of any other half decent CB.
Henderson

We never learn!

Looking forward to the tournament though. I have bagged tickets for England vs Slovakia at St Etienne. Travelling with 3 fellow Shrimps and 2 Dolly Blues! Should be fun if we have enough petrol to get there :ugeek:

I agree

Jack Wheelchair as missed to much top level football

Sturridge all his career as always had problems, and had a one off completed season with Suarez when Liverpool a few seasons ago who thought they'd won the premier league at Xmas .

Cahill , I think Dann at Palace should have been looked at.

Henderson, spoilt for choice in midfield, so why risk him.

St Etienne, been there take care like any away trip, just avoid Marseille, you will get trouble there even if your not looking for it, 2/3 of the population are Arab.

We're going to France for a week arriving in Lille for England v Wales (no chance of tickets for that game in Lens). We're not travelling all the way down to Marseille. Also going to a game in Lyon (Albania v Romania) before we head back. Looking forward to it - never watched football abroad unless You count St Johnstone vs Morecambe..... even if we do have to walk to St. Etienne!

depends how much you want to spend, I went to France 98 for the group games, paid 60 euro for the Tunisia game then same again for the Romania game, then Columbia at Lens a small ground 40.000 capacity and near Calais short trip from London and massive ticket demand, I paid 200 euro, I seen some teenage Lens supporters( their ground) in their colours getting out of a taxi and managed to persuaded them for one .
