O/T M6 Roadworks

Postby Christies Child » Wed Jun 01, 2016 10:18 am

A member of our family travelled up to Morecambe from Bristol yesterday and said it took 90 minutes to travel from Preston to Lancaster on the M6 due to roadworks. Is this an on going problem or just yesterday?

It seems to have got worse in the past few days. Friday, which is always a busy day on the M6 in the North West with people coming away for the bank holiday/half term to the Lakes, we were coming back from Fleetwood and ended up diverting via Quernmore, Caton & Halton to avoid the queues. Fortunately we got a heads-up on the radio as we were travelling up the A6 from Garstang. I know it's been down to 2 lanes and 50mph for months now due to the link road, but generally it flows fairly freely. It just depends on volume of traffic and numpties causing accidents (and sometimes not ending up in them, just causing them). I'm off to Liverpool tomorrow, so I'll have to see what it's like coming back in the afternoon.

It was a bank holiday, you should expect to get nowhere

The queue yesterday on the inside lane of the roadworks was backed up from Caton Rd to the Uni, i went to Carnforth in order to get to Morecambe as it would have taken a couple of hours to get down Caton Rd.

Friday night on returning from Liverpool Airport at 21.30 was still slow through the roadworks .

1 hour 50 minutes from Garstang to Morecambe yesterday because of the temporary traffic lights by the bus station in Lancaster, two lanes down to one, thankfully it was back to two lanes today when I went through.

The queue up the a6 towards Carnforth was constant yesterday, unusual for a Tuesday whether its aHoliday or not. I always turn left and go via Kellet nowadays. The queue on most days is now backed up round the 35 roundabout. Said it before, but its like its happening on purpose so that when the new road is open they can say that its worked!..
On our way walking to Lancaster railway station today via the quay, you can see all the plans and empty space for the new builds - this will negate any advantage of the new road IMO when the quayside houses are built. Should be another bridge for all this lot
Enjoy yourself.... It is later than you think
