The EFL Trophy

The EFL Trophy

Postby marky No.1 » Fri Jun 10, 2016 3:49 pm

Different format next season as the paint has been potted.

16 groups of 4, with top 16 academy teams joining in :o

Each team will play each other once in the group stage, with the academy team getting just one home game. The knockout stages will be single ties apart from the semi-finals, where there will be two legs.

I should hope that every single Morecambe fan will boycott this competition next season.

The EFL Trophy was the JP Trophy, As usual no Premier league teams can enter this.

Then there is the Capital One League Cup (EFL Cup),
and of course the Emirates FA Cup.

The EFL (English Football League) is the new name for the Football League.
We will be in Sky Sports EFL League 2.

Does this mean u21s or u18s ? It's embarrassing if it's the u21s the money and wages in man city and Chelsea's academy is ridiculous some players earn 20k a week so how are clubs like us meant to compete with them ?

The Premier League is understood to have provided £1m to create a total prize fund of £1.95m, with bonuses awarded for each win. The 16 elite academy sides will be evenly distributed throughout the groups with the 48 clubs from Leagues One and Two, with the whole competition running on a north/south basis until the final.

Each team will play each other once in the group stage, with the academy team getting just one home game. The knockout stages will be single ties apart from the semi-finals, where there will be two legs.

The competition is currently without a title sponsor as the Johnstone’s Paints contract expired last season, with Barnsley beating Oxford in the last JPT final.

At least we could possibly win some money this year instead of tins of paint !!!

So the JPT now becomes a training facility for the elite academies? To make it even more dull and uninspiring we will also have to play group stages. Imagine the crowd Morecambe Vs Blackburn kids would get for the final

Presumably the Football League clubs voted for this.

I wonder how our delegation voted.

Same here. Word from Radio Lancs's Dan Jewell on Twitter is that Accrington's board voted against.

Is there really enough of a shit given about this competition to justify a group stage? For god sake, we all moan about the amount of fixtures there are to play, and there are several rounds of completely meaningless, for the most part, matches to play early in the season when league games could be played so we have less to play in the winter.

As for the Premier League reserve sides, was always going to happen at some point to test the water for them entering the league. Give it a few years for the dust to settle and they'll be petitioning for them to join the league as well.

Apparently 18 League 2 clubs voted for this.

I hope we were one of the 6 against but we will find out tomorrow when the club makes a statement.

Money talks. Double the prize money.

Morecambe v Man Utd under-sevens will draw more of a Tuesday night crowd than Morecambe v Grimsby, sadly
“Britain faces a simple and inescapable choice - stability and strong Government with me, or chaos with Ed Miliband: ".

David Cameron. May 4th 2015.
So how did that work out then?

I think that's referring to the plans of introducing League 3.
