Well, that's one decision we do have a say in, at the next election, regardless of what happens in the meantime!

Local Politics could get interesting.... in the governments chop of MPs there will only be 1 for Lancaster & Morecambe.
Let the battle commence, letterboxes at the ready.
Meanwhile, missed this one

Oh yes, I remember chuckling my nuts off at that one!

One MP for the whole district sounds like a good idea anyway.

Why did people vote for this moron? I simply don't understand it - as an MP he is completely useless and as a human being he has as much empathy for people like you and me as Margaret Thatcher or Genghis Khan did. Even though his hair is rather lovely...

I think most people vote for the party they want in Government , without looking at who the individual is.

And the Labour candidate was some outsider who wouldn't move to the area and was going to leave her older kids looking after her young children at home in Manchester all week and she was going to pop back on a Sunday to check the were ok!!!!! I kid you not according to one piece I read.

Like GS people vote for the party and who they want as PM plus ousting a sitting MP is harder and although he isn't local people prob see DM as a local now compared to someone who wouldn't move her family from Manchester.

Its a shame that a decent guy like Eric Ollernshaw lost his place but we still get stuck with Morris if only we could have swapped them.

Yup. Parachuting a candidate in to a firm blue or red area is fine. Parachuting a candidate who has no affiliation to a district that is marginal is asking for trouble. When the candidate then says she'll remain in Manchester... d'oh! Other than that, she sounded like a decent enough person and would probably be a competent MP. Just in the wrong constituency.

So how did that work out then?

I always think it's a bit backwards I get they need to protect the big name MPS but why sometimes don't they take a gamble and put better candidates up in the marginal seats it might give them a better chance of picking more of them up.

They will win the safe seats whatever so put anyone random person up there and then try a bit harder to win the marginals as they are the ones that could swing it for you.

Lots of Morecambe people voted for him because Geraldine Smith turned from being a fairly moderate type of MP under Blair to a loony socialist lapping up every single word of her hero Brown once he became PM and turning in to a publicity seeking mp clone which was miles away from her "care about locals" persona that she started out with and which got her elected in the first place. Not to mention that she campaigned against the new by-pass whereas David Morris campaigned for it!!!!

Is this calculation based on total travel claimed (all forms of travel) divided by total mileage submitted (driven). If that's the case, then it's extremely flawed as the bulk of MP Morris travel expense is for train tickets that incur no mileage claims.
