The York Hotel is for sale, £250k on Fleurets. Needs a lot of investment to get it back to being a profitable business venture. Its a big old property... student flats ahoy?!?

Might need a new venue for the Supporters Winter pool team.... if anyone is interested in having us please get in touch, ideally a venue that sells cask beer.

It's about bladdy time; they've been neglecting their pubs for years. Royal at Heysham has been going downhill for years. We gave up on it 3-4 years ago. Coach in Milnthorpe is virtually on our doorstep and we've been in twice in 10 years; once in 10 for the King's at Hale. Clarendon you can order the same meal each week and get something slightly different, chefs change so often, and the wallpaper's falling off the wall. Hopefully sell to people who care about property, staff and customers, not just money.

RRW , why not email Mike Hinchcliffe at the club and see if theres a possibility of pool tables in the globe bar for your team?

We'll consider anything, although to be honest it is a pub league which is ideally suited and played in that environment. It could work IMO if bringing the pool team there was part of a bigger push to have a well advertised fans night at the venue on wednesdays (champs league football?) used by more than just 10-15 people playing pool. But would anybody be interested in that?

The club have had pool teams and tables in the past, although I'm not sure if they were supporters teamd(?) but it hasn't worked out. Steve Coburn is in our team and he says it doesnt really work because theres no atmosphere, people play pool and leave!

Back to Mitchells, they sold The Royal in December to Thwaites along with The Boot & Shoe heading towards Lancaster University. They also sold The Three Mariners in Lancaster (my favourite pub) to Robinsons.... which is a shame because Robinsons beer is horrible rat water.

Hinchy and fellow director Nigel Adams are actively looking to give the globe bar a much needed ''pub'' feel to it, and are very open to suggestions , like a say, if you make yourself known to him via the club, he's easy to talk to and I'm sure he'd be keen to look into doing something.

I agree with you about Robinson's. I've also gone off Thwaites since they subcontracted most of the brewing to Marston's; different water changes the taste of the beer, plus they overcharge for it, so no reason to start going back to the Royal, especially when the new lunch venue on match days is the Palatine.

I think a lot of Thwaites brewing is also done by Camerons in Hartlepool, particulalry Wainwright. Thwaites still do some brewing from a small micro brewery, but this is mostly craft beer with a very small level of production. I was never a fan of Thwaites beers anyway, but they have got worse since they started subcontracting.

Thwaites sold their brewing operations to Marstons nearly a year ago. They are now a pub and hotel business. Most of the £22 million proceeds is going into acquisitions and refurbs. They're spending at least £1/2 a million on the Royal Hotel, which I think is a great move and the same on the Boot & Shoe after closing the Bowling Green. Both acquired from Mitchell's of course.

In Preston pubs, Wainwright's is a good pint and very popular.
Nothing to do with the Morecambe area though.

I know it's down to personal taste, but for me (and others locally), Wainwright's, along with Bomber and Original, went downhill with the move to Marston's. The only change is the water used, and I guess it's no surprise I'm not fond of Marston's either.

Freez,

I'm not saying it's not a decent pint, I'm just saying that, as a matter of personal taste, since they moved the brewing to Marston's, I no longer like it, no matter how good the cellar is. TBH, when they first changed it, I (and others) thought it tasted watery compared with how it tasted previously. This is in the same establishment, where they keep a good cellar. I don't doubt for a moment that it will suit the palate's of some people perfectly well, just not mine!

No criticism of you, as you said individual taste, Wainwright's not as creamy and as rounded as it was, but it's still not bad.
However, when compared with the electric pump filth they dross out at the Strawberry, it's nectar!!! :D
