We are usually good in the early season and in lovely weather like today. Could have conceded 7 but we didn't. Thought it might have changed when they went down to 10, but in reality didn't seem to change much.
Watched similar games when we have come back from the dead but not today. We got forward in the last half hour but chances fizzled out.
The worrying thing for me was the fans reaction after the game.
Only the first game and a chorus of boos - a shame what appears to be happening to our football Club :(

In reality not much appears to have changed in 2016

Well Bill, I will counter your counter and point out that it DID GO OFF.

But only after some numpty told the Player lads that it had gone off because they'd forgotten to put a shilling in their meter. Once Steve announced to Glen "apparently we've gone off, I'll re-dial", then it went off for ages. D'oh

Fortunately, apparently we didn't miss anything

Keith , may I counter the counter of my earlier counter. My point was it WAS still on when some deaf person informed Shrimper it had gone off , Swidz must have tuned in when the wrongly forced Silence was on so that's where the confusion may have come from .........ohh I've

Very disappointed with the performance yesterday, I don't think one player can honestly say that they played well. We were second to every ball all afternoon, lacked creativity and looked lethargic. It's as though we just weren't ready for the game, which is worrying because we usually get off to a flyer. One of their players went down injured midway through the first half; all of our players apart from Roche rushed to the sidelines for water... Not many of the Grimsby players did. I think that was quite telling in terms of how much more defending we had been doing, and also that we are a little under-cooked.

Just one noteworthy chance in 90 minutes from Barky. Not good enough chaps.

Agree with Red, red, wine. Said to Paul on the way back that we seemed undercooked. Every set piece was a joke and the movement of the players was pathetic. Couldn't pass wind etc. Worst opening display I've seen in years. Comeback never looked likely as there was no tempo, aggression or anything else for that matter. Grimsby had Jackson up front who was lively but believe me they aren't world beaters. Flemmo was abysmal (can't see what Bentley sees in him) but in truth it was a total joke with Big Kev having a shocker too.

We knew what to expect but never showed the balls needed at this level to win or even be competitive in a football match. Bloody well close down and work hard off the ball and where was Kenyon? Not everyone's favourite but surely a game when his yard dog attributes were needed. F*ck the heart rate monitors and just get players out there who want to play.

It's only one game but it looked like the players hadn't been coached pre-season (nonsense, I know) in the basics and the shape was non-existant at times. Team selection daft also. There's time to put things right, but not that long i'm afraid. Massive improvement needed over a tricky August of fixtures. As for the criticism after the game? Most of those fans have been following Morecambe for years and years and aren't bloody daft. It was unacceptable for opening day but not the end of the world...yet. As fans we've got to stick together but I think everyone was surprised at how poor we were.
