If new owners come in then The first thing I would do is employ Jim Harvey to shake up the youth/reserve set up. A club like ours needs to be bringing young lads through the system and selling them (Rochdale,Crewe)
It's just my opinion but are Drummond/ Wainright bringing anything to the table?

I went to see Drummy's boys last week v Kendal and they put up quite a good show against a older and more experienced team.

As for JH coming back, many of us older fans would like it to happen but there is little chance of that ever happening as the memories of his departure will still be an issue with JH.

For me the dream team was always JH and JB but it was never likely to happen.

Not all of the Board agreed with Jim's departure but they didn't have the combined shares to contest the decision.

If/when PMG goes, I think a lot of the bad feeling Jim Harvey may have towards his departure will dissipate. Harvey was a fantasic coach, maybe not the best manager. If he would be interested in sorting out our failing youth structure then we would be foolish to not offer him a role. Our current academy structure is purely a money making operation in terms of educational grants with agegroup teams routinely finishing last in each age category. Utilised properly it could produce players able to sustain league football by creating saleable assets. To me it would be a better plan than the Hotel in Westgate idea.

Does it? We've pretty much not had a youth setup worth having for approaching 15 years now. If we had just axed the whole thing after Garry Hunter came through would anyone have noticed?

This year we haven't even bothered giving any of the youth team pro contracts. When was the last time that happened?

Does the club actually make money from the youth academy then? I always assumed it was an unnecessary drain of resources that could be much better spent on the first team squad.

I believe it is a requirement of being a league team that you must have an academy.

However, there are grants from the league to run it, along with a lot of the community stuff the club does.

So we probably dont profit from the academy, but I doubt we spend little if any over the grants we receive on it.

With so many league clubs in the north west., we have little chance of picking up good young local talent. The big club hoover up so many youngsters, any decent talent is long gone before they hit secondary school and well we get anywhere near them.

I heard they get some grants/funding because the academy is a form of higher education. I'm not competely sure if thats just the academy system that is based at the college or both systems. I know one of the ideas to become more self sufficient was to build an accommodation block at the ground so that the club doesn't have to pay for digs and they can keep all the grant money.

Ha ha! Now that's a rose tinted idea if ever I heard one. Are you being serious?

JH was replaced as he had taken us as far as he could ten years ago. PMG got it bang on really and the proof was Sammy got us up with two seasons and JH went on to being sacked by a number of non-league clubs.

Do you really think Jim would suddenly become a good manager with JH by his side?

For me, any new manager would have to be a completely new face to MFC as the place needs a real shake-up, including the reserves.
