Morecambe Visitor???

Morecambe Visitor???

Postby Keith » Mon Aug 15, 2016 7:48 am

The "Morecambe Visitor" write up of the Blackpool match wasn't one I recognised. It appeared to have been written from a Blackpool perspective. Then I realised that it was the same report as appeared in the Blackpool Gazette. Even the comments at the end of the report were from the Gazette. Is that what 'local' news coverage is now? Morecambe Visitor can't even send a reporter to cover Morecambe matches at home? It used to be such a good source of news, now just a name.

Adam Lord who used to write the Morecambe reports for the Visitor is now covering Preston North End.

His place has been taken by a reporter who lives in Oldham !

This can be damaging to us as ex- attendees may well read the report and get the wrong impression and so think it's not worth coming to the games!

Perhaps the club could have a word :?:

The Visitor is a shadow of it's former self.

I follow them on Facebook and on Twitter and the stuff they post out is just absolute nonsence.

I'd say only about 10% (if that) of the stuff they post and Tweet is Morecambe area related.

I don't buy the paper print version anymore. It's gone downhill. Who remembers when The Visitor was a broadsheet newspaper and came in TWO parts??!!! It was decent then.

This new guy who reports for us since Adam Lord's departure does indeed hail from Oldham - I follow him on Twitter but his news feed is sparse to say the least.

Yes , it was much better when a broadsheet.

It's annoying when they use a few tweets to make a news story !

It annoys me also how they post out "news" stories and then get Joe Public to write their paper for them by quoting their comments made on Facebook and/or Twitter in their printed newspaper.

Like I say though, they've Tweeted and Facebooked out news stories about book reviews, weight loss programmes and computer games of late.

Wholly irrelevant to anything.

There isn't the money in print news any more for the Visitor to have significant amounts of journalists, which is why some stories such as match reports will be syndicated with other local papers, and "stories" will be taken from twitter and facebook, along with photos so they don't have to pay a photographer to go there.

It's a shame, but then it's all of our faults for reading it online rather than buying the paper.

I wouldn't say it's all our fault for taking advantage of something they're offering for free. Did we force them to post so much content online without a fee? I don't think so!

I'd rather they didn't bother than post crap. Do you recognise the game from that report? It makes it sound like Blackpool should have won 2-6 or something. No mention that they should have been down to ten men before half time. Even fans on their forum say it was a very even first half and we were the better team in the second. As Black Morse said, someone not at the game would read this and think we were lucky to mug Blackpool.

Fortunately, enough people were actually there and will hopefully return on Tuesday after seeing a very entertaining game. Evidently one that the Blackpool reporter didn't see.

Totally agree with Morecambe Geek in his post about the Visitor.

A once fine local newspaper that has over the years been an excellent reporter of all things Shrimps.

What a pity that it can no longer support our club in the way it has in the past.

Not our fault at all. The Visitor were late getting online and when they did decide to go online, articles were timed so you would read it in the paper first i.e. continue to buy the paper. Had they embraced the online market from the start, we might still have a local presence.

From what I understand The Visitor will be merged with the Lancaster Guardian. Presumably just rebadged as the Morecambe Guardian.

Johnstone Press have been a joke for so long. Early on in the Internet days they developed a half-decent platform with Fish4Jobs, Fish4Homes etc. that could have been developed further and beaten the likes of Monster, Indeed and Rightmove instead they decided to stop investing in them and try and retain them as print advertising. Funnily enough they lost and readers have suffered ever since. They've suffered death by a thousands cuts. The Visitor once had twice the number of journalists that the Visitor, Lancaster Guardian and Courier now have combined. Funnily enough when you lose all your staff you lose any semblance of quality. Facebook is now a better source of news, if completely and utterly biased and misspelt.

Their latest Twitter post by a Morecambe newspaper:

"TV ads lead kids towards bad food"

See what I mean ???

Poor. Very, very poor.

They've sunk to new lows, using Google street view images for their headline photos with not a credit to Google in sight.

Today's Visitor:

"Trouble began after the match when a car carrying senior blackpool officials was vandalised outside the Shrimps Globe Arena ground."

At no point does our LOCAL paper say it was Blackpool fans who were the guilty party.

Any locals read the story, what assumptions will they jump to???

Their Facebook is terrible. Mostly articles from elsewhere in the NW, followed by some dimwitted comments.
