Is our squad complete?

Postby Wild Bill » Thu Sep 01, 2016 4:52 pm

So with the additional loan signings, have we realistically got a squad big enough and good enough to compete in the top half of L2 until at least January?

don't be surprised if we acquire any out of contract players once the takeover is complete.

We've got enough depth now for sure, just a case of have we got the right quality, you'd think so upto now but only time will tell...

GK - Roche, nizic

Full backs - Wakefield, McGowan, Conlan, Jennings

Centre backs - Edwards, Whitemore, Winnard

Midfielders - Kenyon,Fleming, Rose, Wildig, Murphy

Wingers/attackers - Barkhuizen, Molyneux, Dunn, Ellision, Turner

Strikers - Stockton, Mullin, Massanka

22 players and almost 2 for every position let's hope these are up for the challenge !

I'd swap Turner and Mullin round from what I've seen where Jim has employed both of them this season.

Winnard can play left back, not right back.

Dean Cox just released by Leyton Orient. I'd be happy to see him join, but can't sign for a league club til January now.

Nope. I think it's a similar scenario to when Twissy left us and he couldn't sign for anyone in the Football League so he ended up at Stalybridge.

these lot are free agents and are "available"

If they were free agents BEFORE the transfer window shut then anyone can sign them.

The problem for Cox is that he was released AFTER the transfer window shut meaning that he can't now sign for anyone until the window opens again. He can sign for a non league club as the transfer window doesn't apply to them.

That's my understanding of it anyway.

Ah right, just looked deeper and it looks like he has been paid off his full salary for a year. Orient fans not happy with their owner:

That's an understatement Mark!

Only yesterday their owner came out and said he would get them out of the debt they are in, yet it was HE who put them there in the first place.

A good mate of mine is an Orient fan and once he gets started on the subject...........!!

Free agent, Reuben Reid, has signed for Exeter, just days before they play Plymouth

He was a decent player not long ago.

Surprised he has been available till now.

Be interesting to see what "The Cravat" can do with him.

Best forward player in L2, 2 seasons ago IMO. It has made Well Street go in to meltdown - 8 pages in 12 hours - they can't believe it!

Massive injury concerns over Reid and whether he can still play full time football, hence why Plymouth let him go and no one has touched him with a barge pole until mid September.

Tilsdale's signed him in order to give the fans something to shout about other than himself. Many fans have been wanting to get rid of him for years and the Tilsdale out brigade is swelling every year. Maybe Reid will save his bacon but I doubt it.

It makes you wonder why John Coleman did not offer in his opinion "the best defender in the league" a new contract.
When is Winnard back for us?
