Tranmere DON'T want Jimbo

Re: Tranmere want Jimbo

Let's see what happens. If Jim and ken leave it will be a sad day from my point of view.
Not everyone will agree with me but that's just the way it is. We all have ideas on how or what way we play the game. It's the magic of football ain't it??
It's a miracle we are still in league 2. The future looks good under a new owner. Hopefully our current management team will still be here but if not there is nothing we as fans can do about it.
Just for the record if Jim and ken leave I want to wish them good luck wherever they end up.
Up the football league we go

I tend to agree with this. Jim has always been strapped for cash and he has had to play a certain way because of the players he has got in order to keep us in League 2. Don't forget there have been many instances when we lost potential targets because we couldn't pay them enough. It would be good to see whether a bit more freedom to buy the players he wants would give better results.

Until anything is official everyone needs to chill out. The fact that other clubs are 'looking' at Jim and Ken must mean they are doing a good job. Be pleased for them but the truth is they haven't gone anywhere yet.

Really can't see PMG continuing to run the club. I suspect he'll just stay on for a few months to help with transition. The big part of the club's problems is that it's stale. New ideas are needed to take it forward. All PMG's plans revolve around property, which is good in that it may bring in more revenue to cut the losses, but does nothing for the entertainment and to get the lost fans back. We have to congratulate him and be grateful for him getting the club into L2 and the move to The Globe, but in recent years, he's been presiding over the ever dwindling attendances without any real clue as to stop the decline.

You could turn that around and say that the lack of entertainment and poor home form, all over several years (not just the last few weeks) has caused the reduced attendances and lower income, which have caused his wages budget to be cut - a vicious circle.

Or think of the huge amounts lost due to cup match fiascos where even the most ardent Jim fans were scratching their heads about his team selection and tactics.

I know loads of ex regulars who say the same thing, that they won't come whilst Jim is the manager. That's really sad, but it's reality I'm afraid.

Someone will have to run the show if Diego spends most of his time in Qatar. We don't want to be a "circus" like Blackburn Rovers.
Unless Diego is actually going to be based round here in which case PMG's roll will be limited although he will still have 20% of the club's shares unless that has changed.

its not jim that needs to go ,ok his tactics are not always right but he has got us into top 7 so far and if we got a couple of decent defenders added to the squad and released a couple we would be doing even better , need our new owner to provide the necessary funds to achieve this ,Not a change of manager

Agreed, lots of negativity on here and we are currently 7th!!!
Some people are never satisfied, lowest budget in the division and playing better stuff this season, winning and losing but not drawing, but a young and exciting team who are all learning at this level.

I'd be happy with mid table, but as it stands we haven't been negative in any game and still concede but still score, which was what most were moaning at about last season, when Jim supposedly went defensive and the games were boring and we lost.
At the moment we are either winning or losing, if we switched the fixtures and won all our home games, perhaps things would be more positive??

Onwards and upwards, I'd be gob-smacked if they went to Tranmere, as its a club in panic mode to me, sacking and appointing everyman too quickly.

I thought someone had said that Diego was going to be hands-on and be regularly at the Globe?

Re the shares, PMG only ever had a "majority" shareholding of around 80% - there are other shareholders, particularly other board members with a few thousand shares, but also hundreds of shareholders with very small numbers of shares acquired over decades past. I'd assumed that the "majority" bought by Diego were PMG's shares leaving him with few/none rather than Deigo buying shares from loads of different people which would have been far more public and taken longer timescales.

But no-one outside the Board will know who owns what until the next annual return is filed.

The last Annual Return was made up to 21 June 2016. They now call them Confirmation Statements and the next one is to be made up to 21 June 2017 and due by 5 July 2017 so a bit of time to kill till that is public.

As mentioned last week our total issued Share Capital went up from just over £1.8 million to just over £4 million but we don't know the circumstances or details of the allotment of just over 2.2 million shares.

End of topic !

Not necessarily. Only goes as far as saying that there has been no contact between the clubs. If Tranmere do declare an interest then obviously things could change.

Fingers crossed they appoint someone else quickly so we can all rest easily!

Good news...would be even better if they could sort out the clubs on going defensive problems that are an unfortunate repeat of last season to date.

For anyone thinking that statement is committing his future to us is nonsense. If tranmere come calling with a pay rise and a 2 year contract then jims head will turn surely. This might work in jims favour to get a new deal off Diego. He's certainly in a good position personally at the moment !

My own two pence....

32% win ratio at home under Jimbo has not been good enough. There have been some absolute shambles of performances at home in the past few years and people are delusional if they don't think the above stat, or the fact we have only won around 24 in the last 72 home games, has not affected attendances. This has in-turn affected clubs finances.
Also most people on this board are die-hard Morecambe fans who are used to stability and non sacking of managers. Whilst 99% of fans wanting Bentley to go is a bit far fetched, I can guarantee there are plenty of people who are not on this board who feel the same as Kendalshrimp.

However, we have the push on together and hope the owner invests and that Bentley can "do a good job with money"

The Bentley loyalists and the Bentley Skeptics will always argue (usually after we lose (Skeptics) or win (Loyalists "Bentley in, I told you so" crew).

My opinion..... I just want to see Morecambe win at home (I was on holiday for Blackpool and Portsmouth), I don't care how anymore.

I think Jim and Ken are contracted to us until the end of the seasons if Tranmere (or anyone else) is looking the club doesn't have to let him go until then. I suspect Tranmere will want someone quickly.
Not saying Diego would stand in his way if he really wanted to go just that he could block it if he felt inclined.

Not sure I agree. A club that sacks managers regularly, even when about fifth in the league, compared to a club that sticks by managers even when the going gets tough? It would have to be a decent pay rise to turn his head at the moment, especially when some cash might actually come his way now.

An interesting read from their forum, thoughts regarding Jim Bentley, Ken, Jim Harvey and how Cole was misfiring for them and scoring for us

http://www.thefootballnetwork.net/board ... 0,15760756

I think it would be great lets be honest he managed to keep morcombe in league two with a smaller budget than we had. If you thought we were getting adkins then i thought you were all joking seriously? Why would he put his reputation on the line with us when in the next weeks most likly be 4 league 1 jobs going and a couple on the championship.

Harvey didnt exactly do great with halifax 10 years to late with that one.

Why would dave leave flyde to come to us, if he gets them up he will be given a season most likly to get things straight comes here he will get untill feb no brainer to stay at flyde.

Majority of fans moaned we need a football league manager, were getting a manager who has a team in league two 7th in the league that has cole stockton in the team and a shoe string budget.

People saying his win ratio, it means nothing was gary brabin really a more succesful than john king? Thats what the stats say.

As i say he has managed to keep morecombe challenging in league two which is more than can be said about us when we were there so interms of budget he has achieved alot.

Won them the FA Trophy at Wembley !!

Wasn't given enough time at The Shay in my opinion and they were only relegated on the last day on goal difference I'm sure?

He's still hero worshipped at Prenton Park is "Cigar and Slippers" Jim - and he was mooted as being a future Tranmere manager VERY soon after having lead us to the Conference in '95.

They were one point safe going in to the last game, they were a goal up against Macclesfield but they could only manage a draw, meanwhile Guiseley beat Torquay

Harvey has largely failed as manager since leaving Morecambe, you could argue that his last couple of seasons here were a failure also. Club legend at Tranmere or not, his CV does him no favours.

If PMG ever leaves Diego would do well to invite Harvey back to set up a proper youth structure at MFC again - his greatest achievement here IMO which was dismantled by Sammy Mac. Jim might not be interested of course, but its well worth asking the question.

Agree about Jim coming back to develop young talent. It is one of the only avenues open to us to generate additional income (in some cases substantial - Barnsley/John Stones (£7m); Daggers/Dwight Gayle (£1m); QPR/Raheem Sterling (£12m); Hamilton Accies/James McCarthy (£2m). You look at the players he brought in as rejects or from lower clubs and went on to a higher level it is a good list - Perkins, Smith, Thompson, Carlton, Drummond, Hardiker - and one, bar Baker and Duffy who we paid money for, we've never been able to emulate since. Can't see Jim Bentley agreeing to it though.
