Better stadium
Better training facilities
Step up a division
Bigger fanbase
Larger wage packet

If you take all sentiment out of it the move is a no brainer for Jim to be honest! The only thing we have over Shrewsbury is job security.

Up to now....but with a new owner?

Yes we have a new owner but we don't know anything about him and what his plans are.

Jim has had meetings with him and has presumably been told his vision for the club and is now suddenly linked to every job in the North West that becomes available which certainly gives me cause for concern.

As I said, that's the only thing we have over them, the job stability.

Come on guys. Is there any real substance to these bookies' odds? I may be totally wrong but I reckon their odds come from who is currently doing well at a smaller club than the one without a manager.

If Shrewsbury offer a 2 year deal to jim he might want to take it if no new offer is on the table from Diego with only this season left remaining on his deal. I'm sure Shrewsbury could offer a better wage than us. He could travel in everyday from the Wirral and get to test himself in a higher division. At the same time I'd expect Shrewsbury to have a number of targets and will want to speak to at least 2 candidates before appointing anyone. I think we'll hear more of this after the weekend ! A club statement would be nice if the rumours escalte over the weekend !

Agree with KS here ,surely Shrewsbury would have had to ask the clubs permission to speak to Jimbo so therefore a club statement would be a decent move to keep the small but loyal band of fans informed !

I would think a little over a month ago and it would have been an excellent move for Jim and a crap one for us.

But now, with Diego & co in place, I would think Jim will be viewing our future much more positively. Money may not be immediately forthcoming, but the new owners believe a Championship place is the goal, so why would Jim want to leave now? I would hope that even if Shrewsbury offered him the job, he'd actually think we're a better bet.

Anyone would think it's a silly time to walk away Keith but what do we know what's going on behind the scenes and what discussions have already taken place about going forward ?

With Jimbo and his father's legendary status at Telford, it's highly unlikely he would go to their fiercest rivals even if it meant a pay rise!

From the BBC:

Morecambe manager Jim Bentley has been linked with the vacancy, while former Shrewsbury defender Nigel Pearson and three ex-Wolves bosses, Dean Saunders, Kenny Jackett and Dave Jones, are all also said to be among the contenders for the job.

I think some people including and maybe worryingly RW are falling into a trap here of thinking of the possible potential of an untried outsider like Bentley.
I put it to anyone involved with STFC and it's hopes of moving forward in league 1 that we cannot take a risk on someone who lets face it can't even hack it in league 2 as a manager.
People will come back and say Morecombe are on their arse , little crowds, little budget etc etc so just think what he might do with a club with a higher budget, bigger crowds etc etc.
Key word there is 'might'!! We don't need a might, we need a definite tried and tested league 1 experienced manager who we know can.
Jackett, Evans and Holloway can and have, that's what we need.

Maybe we can't afford these people and i'm moaning over an impossible aspiration but this is a crossroads for this club for sure. We either stump up and get a manager who can push us up the league and possible play off's or we choose someone who in my honest opinion is worse than the guy we've just got rid of and mediocrity further ever more back in league 2.

I want to see our club achieve it's full potential. We were once upon a time a league 2 (championship) club for ten years and Burton have proved that is a possibility now. That might never happen for us but to at least try and aspire to get there is all I want to see.

Quite frankly if that ambition isn't there then neither is my interest.

As a Shrewsbury fan that is just the way I look at it.

If any of this speculation is true, then it is quite a predicament for the Manager. So much depends on his meetings with the new owners. They either want to go their own way or offer Jim a new deal. Things will seem very different after the cushiness of PMG

His sentiments are right, to be as high as they can be, but he lets himself down by spelling our name wrong. Lazy.

To be honest, on a small betting market like 'Who will be the next Shrewsbury Town manager' I don't think it would take many bets on a particular candidate to start to come in drastically in price due to, I assume, a relatively small number of bets placed. People who are interested in betting on these types of things then see a market mover and try and get on it also. It became apparent last time with Tranmere that although flattered to be linked to the post, there wasn't anything in it - despite some lazy journalist claiming it was nailed on!

It's got Kenny Jackets name all over this one plus he is now favourite
BUT
He needs funds to succeed and if he isn't offered any, and Mellon wasted such a lot, then someone else's name is being bantered around,
Come on down
Mr Jim Bentley

I really hope not though

I would be very surprised if JB becomes the new Shrewsbury manager, can't really believe any team in a higher division would pick him! Our slide down the table usually starts after the turn of the year but this time it's started in September! 5 home defeats out of 6, only win agains an old academy team in a cup that nobody likes! If any side really offers JB a 2 year contract i think he would snap that hand off right now. New owners .new vision, less sentiment

There has been no approach to the club, and Jim is hoping to meet with the new board members ASAP and talks about the future. According to Jim himself.
