Last season, they sacked their manager and the chairman said "we shouldn't be drawing with teams like Morecambe"

It's odd that so many have wanted rid of Bentley over the last 18 months or so, right up to the point where it looked like other clubs might want him.

No, I think it was up to the point that we started playing with more enthusiasm, then the takeover happened with the possibility of more money to pay better wages and we want to see how Jim performs then.

Personally I've never wanted Jim out. But I believe in free speech and all that. So everyone has their own opinion on the matter.
Let's just see at the end of the season where we end up. Keep the faith. That's all I ask

Just thinking about the season so far and also some of the stick the team and Jimbo have been getting from some people on here.
If home form and away form were swopped about, every-one would be absolutely delighted with the start weve made to the season.
Lost two of our best players in the close season, cobbled together a few loanes, cast-offs and kids to get a squad assembled, injurys to key players. Expectations were pretty low, if were honest.
All that and we find ourselves in the play-off positions, where we’ve been for much of the season so far.
Its not ideal that its happened as it has, because home fan's haven‘t had a lot to excite them in matches, that’s true. But surely we can all see the bigger picture and see the season so far as a whole?
We’d all prefer to be winning our home games with great football – but, rather than using our good away form as a stick to beat the team and gaffer with, I wish some would just give them a break.

I would like to associate myself with the comments of the previous speaker. ;) The truth is, whilst we haven't been getting the results at home so far this season, the playing style has been more entertaining, and I hope that in time it'll come together properly and we start to see the away form reflected more closely in the home form.

I made exactly the same point after Doncaster battered us, that if we swapped the form around, perhaps the opinions on here would be more understanding.

Six missing last night, no moaning, get on with it, batter them, three points.
Happy days.

Unfortunately 90% don't go to away games and our absolutely shocking home form must be why our crowds have dropped..
Anyway great performance last night

Quite. But we've been here before over the last three seasons and it's tailed off.

I like Jim (who at Morecambe doesn't really) - his passion for the club is impossible to doubt. He's obviously got a lot of credit in the bank from his time as player and manager, and whilst it would have been easy for the club and Jim to part ways over the summer, they haven't, and up to now, it seems to have been the right decision, and hopefully it will continue to be so.

Jim has flaws (all managers at this level do) - young talent often seems to stagnate, the absolute shambles of a defense, players played out of position, overly negative home tactics, lack of a plan B. He's obviously dealing with limited budget and playing staff, but it's a concern that there hasn't been a noticeable improvement in any of these areas over the last few years.

Extra money (whether that is available or not is an unanswered question and not the given many on here seem to think) should lead to improvements on the pitch purely through better personnel, but it doesn't solve any of those issues.

Jim isn't irreplaceable - as has been said, any League club will have a lengthly application list. Whether or not the appointee does a better job in post is questionable - some managers make a hash at one club but have success at others. Sometimes it's pot luck in assembling a squad that clicks. However, I'm sure Jim's devotion to Morecambe sees him put more effort in and put up with a lot of crap that an outside wouldn't.

We're not far enough into the season yet to see if Jim has addressed the issues of the fall off in form towards Christmas - signs are more promising this year however.

However, home form and performances must be addressed. It's all very well pontificating about if the results were swopped round, everyone would be happy, and that's true. Of course, in reality, we more often than not stink the Globe up, and have done for such a prolonged period of time that many have walked away. Our away form has saved us from the drop over the last few seasons - it's time to work on the home performances, turn losses into draws and draws into wins, and start looking up rather than working out how many points we need to be safe.

I don't think Trevor was pontificating, bit harsh, as it is a fair point.

Yearly budget cuts have severely hampered our ability to grow and improve, no matter who is in charge IMO.
I don't believe that Stockton, Barkhuizen, Dunn, Wakefield and Whitmore think they are stagnating with us either, I certainly don't, so there could be change there.

As has been said, our starting point is survival, perhaps this will also change now we have new owners?
Intentions still unclear on that front, so time will tell.

Our home form affects income, despite that fact we are 7th currently, we could be back to 16th again at 5pm on Saturday, but you are only as good as your last game!!

Ha! I wouldn't know how to pontifi-whatever!
I agree with nearly all that you say, no argument. I don’t get to hardly any away games these days so Ive seen pretty much the same as all the others. Disappointing but as I say "overall" were doing okay - home form does need addressing, its been crap, no big news there, im not soft in the head.

I just don’t think some of the more harsh criticism of players and Jim is fair, they seem to look at the home form and just base their slagging off on that alone with no view of things overall. If they only criticsised the home form, wouldnt have a problem with that its been really bad. But they use it to have a much wider - and at times nasty and snide dig.
Its right that home defeats have put a lot of people off, cant deny that at all but that wasnt my main point I was making.
Just my opinion though.

Trouble is, it's not just this season is it? It was last season too, and the season before, and the season before that. It wouldn't take much to go back a 2/3/4 years on this board and find posts from people lamenting the poor home form. There's been a gradual drop-off in supporters over the past few years and that's going to take more than a couple of home wins to turn around and get them back. When past regulars read/hear dour reports of our latest home loss, it's hardly going to make them want to start coming down again.

It's sad really. I work with 2 guys that went to every home game for years. now I keep asking them to come back but unfortunately it's not happening.
Hope Jimbo finally gets some cash to spend so we can sign a player who can put bums on seats (Jacko, Twissy, Baker sort of player)
