Probably the first big away game we had for years.
Think we took 4 coaches but I went on the train with my dad (you could do that journey in the BR days)
Layer Rd was a dump and you could understand why they moved ground.
Anyway Ian Cain scored to make it 1-1 to send the away following crazy.but we ended up losing 3-1 .great days

God what I wouldn't give for a proper away game, whens the last one that we had? Probably Sunderland, but Blackpool was the more memorable - that's very sad. Over 4 years ago.

If we can somehow get past Coventry at home, get a good draw in Round 2 and get a proper big club in the 3rd Round, it's just what the club needs to unify it, get on the TV........

Cainy scored with a cross that hit the far post and dropped in, we went potty. But they won the Conference at a canter that year and just stepped up a gear and ran out comfortable winners.
Cainy at the time swore it was a shot. Years later admitted it was sliced back post cross!!

Seem to remember them getting a really soft penalty and he blazed it over the bar.

Did we draw the tie at Christie? Think it was 1-1. In final stages we had a chance that their keeper scooped out of the goalmouth and lot of people were certain it had crossed the line.

York City away was always good. Fond memories of the 4-1 at their place 3 and a half years ago. We took over 300 that day, with a high proportion staying for the weekend..... pay for your drinks yozzer! The other two times we played them during the Minstermens all too brief FL return it was NYD and a Tuesday night game.

Their new ground is 3 miles out of town! There is a shuttle bus service from the railway station, so might try that.
I have read they have a marquee at the ground that welcomes away fans and has live bands on - but presume there wont be too much going on for our game?

Somebody typed up the songs for the players and put them together on a sheet, photocopied them and gave them out in the away end.
So everyone got to join in with the Stevie Holden bouncing song!! Happy days, despite the defeat.

Yes, I was there.
One of the great Christie Park night games, when the crowd came together as one.
An atmosphere we rarely get at the Globe Arena.

2-1 we won that game

Colchester United went on that season to become GM Vauxhall Conference Champions having only been relegated the season before. Managed by Roy McDonough whose autobiography - Red Card Roy - is an absolute must read for fans of lower league football....

Yep, Welling at home was 91/2 season.

Southport and Northwich Victoria were 93/4 season early on in to Leighton James' reign as manager - you can add Slough Town to the same list/season too before we lost to Guiseley....

Telford United was also that same 93/4 season and (in reality) spelt the beginning of the end for Griff.

We took a massive following that day too and our performance was woeful in the FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round.

We went to Telford and stopped on the A5 at a pub for a drink around noon.
As we walked in the landlord greeted us with "Your early, it's all ready for you upstairs".

We looked blankly at him! Then we all realised he thought we were the team who were stopping in for Scrambled eggs for lunch.

Half an hour later, in trot the team sporting the most garish awful red shellsuits, cue laughter from the half dozen supporters!! Only Ollie Parillon looked remotely chic and managed to carry it off. Cainy and Stevie Adder Holden came across for a chat while the scouse mafia scuttled upstairs sheepishly.
As stated we didn't turn up and got hammered.
I still blame the bloody shellsuits!!!

Three coaches we took that day too. I think the third one is nearly home now.
