Well with the those stupid traffic lights on Caton Rd , people will certainly have time to read those Brown signs along with being able to complete the Times crossword .

Accessing the M6 southbound and exiting the M6 at Caton Rd is worse now than its ever been , twice last week queueing back as far as Skerton bridge to get on M6 and as far back as Prison to exit on to Caton Rd , going to Carnforth being much quicker .

Hardly a surprise really. Maybe it will all come good when it finally opens and all those cones are removed. Still can't understand the need for all those cones stretching a mile or so back on both sides of the M6 when there appears to be no reason and certainly a lack of work being carried out requiring so many cones.

A few months ago I posted that I felt that a huge roundabout should have been put there but that met with the usual negative comments.

If people can negotiate the magic roundabout in Swindon without much trouble then surely a roundabout at the M6 junction and on Morecambe Road would have been more sensible.....but when did traffic planners have any sense..... :?: :?: :?:

I hope it is signed Morecambe FC rather than Globe Arena!!

I noticed when going South earlier this week many more lanes have been made for turning South coming from Lancaster. When the comes are removed, and when more traffic is using the by-pass the traffic flow at the junction will be completely different. Traffic lights allow for priority to be given to certain directions to let more traffic through from routes that provide more traffic.

The traffic lights outside the college have improved the traffic flow through the junction compared to the massive tail backs that used to build up round the roundabout.

The big question will be: will the new road mean that Morecambe Road between Shrimp roundabout and Skerton Bridge will be less congested, particularly morning and evening rush hours?
I'm not so sure. Plenty of traffic will not use the new road if they are simply driving between Morecambe and Lancaster.

The road isn't designed to take all the traffic that currently goes down Morecambe road. It's designed to get traffic to the motorway more quickly and cut down congestion in Lancaster.

I imagine most will decide where they're going in Lancaster and decide which route is best. For those going into Lancaster, it should be quicker going down Lancaster and Morecambe Road, which should be less congested without the freight and traffic heading for the motorway.

No doubt like the majority of other users of the M6 around Lancaster they will be glad when the new road is open (this coming week... :?: ) Yesterday I had to travel from Storth to my daughters in Preston just after 1pm and as usual wanted to access the M6 at Junction 35. However traffic reports on Radio Cumbria warned of extensive ques going far back as Junction 36 at Crooklands all due to the cones around Junction 34 reducing the M6 to a 2 lane nightmare.

Fortunately knowing the back lanes I eventually got onto the M6 at Forton Services.

Maybe somebody could explain why there was / is a need for so may cones on both the North and South bound carriageways some 2 miles BEFORE the new junction. Defies any logic to this simple fool....

Even if someone did explain it to you, you'd just ignore the answer if it didn't fit in with whatever point you were trying to make.

And if you were really interested Costain are very active on social media. Come back and tell us the response.

Is the road definitely opening tomorrow, 31st?
On the Costsin website, it also mentions finishing in Spring 2017.

It opens tomorrow, does anyone know what time? Spring 2017 is the completion date for landscaping, signage etc.

A Lancashire County Council spokesman said a ‘low key ribbon cutting’ event was scheduled for around 10am on Monday at the Costain base at Halton, attended by VIPs.

He said the first traffic is due to be allowed onto the road at around noon.
