"Take the lead, it's important"
"The first goals massively important"
"We'll be going all out to get that all important first goal"
"That's the message to the lads, lets try our hardest, lets get out the traps, lets try and get a goal up, lets take the game to Exeter and that's what we'll be doing"
The result? 1-0 down after 4 minutes.
Some further quotes from Jim:
"There can't be so much negativity, doom and gloom if we go 1 goal down"
"But you've got to look at all eventualities, if we do go 1 goal down everyone's got to remain calm and keep plugging away"
2-0 down after 16 minutes.
I'm sorry, but for me that speaks volumes. Either whatever message Jim is trying to get across to them during the week is falling on deaf ears or they simply aren't playing for him any more.
Now onto his post game interview:
"You've got to look at what you've done in the week, we think we've got it right, we've prepared them right"
"I said to them, you've got to buck up because ultimately if you don't, we can't keep having this, there will have to be changes made, obviously we can't do nothing outside the window, but there will be changes made thats for sure because we can't keep having this scenario every week at home, keep going early goals behind and not having enough to drag us back and man up and be professionals about it"
Jim clearly thinks hes doing the right thing and is preparing them right as he says. Firmly laying the blame at the feet of the players. Is it a case that the players aren't doing as they are told or that they are simply just woefully short of what is required at this level?
Whatever it is, it sounds like that if Jim is still in a job come January that many of the players may not be!
The pre game stuff I find absolutely shocking, what we witnessed in that first half was completely at odds with what the manager said they have been discussing and having drilled into them all week in training. If the manager can't get his message across to the players and get them performing how they've been training all week then should he be allowed to continue in his role?
