O/T The Bay Gateway magazine and Seatruck

If you are able to get hold of the above magazine sponsored by Bay Radio read a very interesting article about the incredible rise in the business fortunes of Seatruck, the Heysham based Irish Sea container shipping company who have invested in over £400 million in its fleet of 12 ships, the newest of which has been built specifically for use in Heysham port. The opening of the Bay Gateway is set to be a major turning point for the firm with drivers being able to take their cargo directly to the port without having to navigate Caton Road and Lancaster thanks to the link road which will fundamentally and dramatically change access to Heysham Port from the M6.

For me this is the type of local successful business that our club should move heaven and earth to get involved with, with a view to some kind of corporate sponsorship being offered in terms of future shirt and stadium sponsorship that would provide Sea Truck with a nationwide platform of its name and provide the club with an association with a highly successful local company.

The Seatruck Stadium sounds good to me........

We know that Rural Shrimp is Nigel so maybe worth sending him a pm with your suggestion.

They would get their company name on radio and TV every Saturday when the football scores are being reported.

These sort of ideas fell on deaf ears in the past.

Absolutely agree - just the kind of large profitable local company we need as a major sponsor. They're in a growth phase on the back of the new ship and the new road, so will be looking for new business so potential national TV coverage, even just the stadium name and glimpses of the short fronts on sports news/highlights programmes would help get their name known - the occasional live match would be the icing on the cake. A director or two needs to get in there and get a deal done - the time is right for them and us.

Especially now that they've just started a new multi-million pound improvement plan at the Port - works commenced the same day the Bay Gateway opened.

It is a superb opportunity for the club.

A drop in the ocean (see what I did there?) compared to the amount our old friends at Danish Oil & Natural Gas have been/are still spending here! I refer you to my previous suggestion 'The Dong Arena'.
Besides this though, they (I've forgotten exactly who!) will be spending £1.2 Billion on a new tunnel under the bay for the electric wires, they must be worth a tickle?

Alastair Eagles, the Chief Executive at Seatruck, is a fantastic bloke, a Chamber board member, young and incredibly passionate about the area. He's done everything and more to maximise the potential of the road and it's capacity to bring in new jobs in haulage and much more. Definitely worth a conversation.

We're not blessed with many large companies but those suggested and other like Dennison Trailers, SJ Bargh, Alfa Aesar, EDF, Dong and National Grid have to be worth a punt or grow existing relationships.

Not many people outside our "loop" will know that Stadium naming rights are available. They will probably think it is called the Globe Arena ad infinitum.

I could live with a name like "The Seatruck Stadium".

If the stadium was re-named something other than "Globe Arena" how would this affect our banqueting and events department. It has a well known brand name now.

If it brings the money it, that's what matters. There can't be many league clubs that don't have stadium naming rights sponsorship and even fewer who continue to use the name of a bankrupt company!

I can't imagine they could keep it if the stadium name changed - it would just cause confusion. With hindsight, they should never have branded the function rooms with the same name as the stadium, as it will indeed cause rebranding, new marketing materials, new website, etc. But, brands can and do change - nothing is impossible, just needs good publicity/marketing - a few months after any branding change, people soon forget the old brands. Anyway, it must have been thought about from the outset because the club will have known the Globe sponsorship was time-limited and would have expected a different stadium name after 5 years anyway so they would never have planned/expected it to be left as Globe Arena for the long term. They need a new name/brand that will endure different ground sponsorship, such as "The Christie Suites" or "The Morecambe Arena".
