What has the club done for me!

What has the club done for me!

Postby Heysham_red » Fri Nov 11, 2016 9:20 am

Firstly I'm sorry for starting my own topic on a subject that already has plenty of topics but I don't post often and I wanted it off my chest.

To lay some foundations I'm an outsider. I was a regular a the club before I moved away from the town but still attend when I'm visiting. I love this club dearly and its heart breaking to see it like it is right now but maybe it's this outside view that is going to allow me to say what I have to say.

I'm hearing people say we need to support the club, buckets at the stadium that locals needs to get behind it etc etc.I have to ask. Why? I'm sorry but the club has done very little, in my opinion, since the move to the new ground to warrent such feelings. There is no question in my mind that the move towards commercial income has hit regular supports hard. We are the forgotten supports. I was once proud to say we are about being a family club, I can't say we are any more. The quality of service in the omega stand compared to the north stand is at best the same...how can that be?

I don't want to see my club fail, some of the players, management team and staff deserve better and so do some very loyal fans...but quite simply, again in my opinion, the club has let many fans down. The attendance proves it...how can we expect football fan in town to attend. We wouldn't expect them to continually go to a restaurant if they thought the food was sometimes good but it was continually crap service...

It's very hard for me to say this but I'm a fan of this football club becuase of its past...not it's present...and that is a problem. The club needs to stand up and take some responsibility. I'm hoping this entire episode is a blip but all of the above still stands. This is very little to do with the quality of football but the quality of service and as a regular joe...it just doesn't exist.

I feel like I'm kicking my club when it's down. I'm sorry for doing that...but ask yourself..what had the club actuallt done for you, for the community.

And with regard to what the club has done for the community which is in the last line of H R 's question Janet Preston and her team go round all the schools in the area doing their good work , and at Christmas Jim , Kenny and the first team players go to the Infirmary to see the kids in the Childrens' Ward and take them presents , free tickets etc etc.
There's plenty more community activity during the year as well.

And given us a £10 voucher with our season ticket purchase.

I finally used mine during the week when I purchased one of the superb "big coats".

Was much needed on Tuesday night v Bradford City I can tell you....!!

Can I just say too, that part of the reason the club is in the mess it's in is because for too long much of the fanbase has had the attitude of "what can the club do for me" rather than "what can I do for the club" and I include myself in that.

Morecambe 1 York City 1 on a rainy Tuesday night a couple of season ago.

Jack Redshaw's 93rd minute equaliser to send the home end into pandemonium !!

I'm a regular supporter, don't feel forgotten in any way, and think that the club still has a family feel to it. It's what you make of it, really...

Instead of asking 'what has the club done for me'.....why not ask yourself 'what have I done for my club' or even better 'what can I do for my club in its hour of need'.

Maybe if you said 'sod the pie... I'm going to the match to support the team' not to complain about the food which seems to be a gripe of yours.

Our club needs all the support it can muster otherwise it is headed for the grave yard to join other clubs like Darlington as an example. Do you really want to contribute to its fall..... :?: :?: :?:

If you can't get to games then support it in other ways such as its lottery...any contribution towards its upkeep and survival would be welcome.

3 years ago , I went through an entire season where I booked a table for every single match of the season in hospitality, I was of course reimbursed by friends attending games but I did treat a few family members and customers of my business regularly to a lunch and match, I was late arriving to a match on the second game of the following season, I got to the front and discovered I had forgotten my wallet, I went to reception and a member of staff, no longer at the club, was sat behind the desk, I told this person my predicament, asking if I could go in, watch the game, and pop back at teatime to pay, ''I'm sorry, we can't do that!'' was the reponse.

Family club my arse, it's a business providing entertainment, and if the entertainment isn't good enough I then go elsewhere, having said that it's happy days at the moment.

I think some people are missing my point. There can be no guarantees with regards to the quality of football and I agree some of the games mentioned were excellent...I had my stag do at the club for the 3-2 will against Newport...many of my friends didn't watch the game but thoroughly enjoyed the service. But we paid for that...that is what I did for the club. I pay for the service...why should I pay more when I feel the only time i got a return for my money was when I spent a shed load more of it.

If some support really have to flip this round and ask what I can do rather than what the club can do then we are in real trouble because quite frankly the number of supporters we have dont have deep enough pockets to help us out. I get that people are being defensive but it's time to look beyond the rose tinted glasses. As I said before. Why on earth would anyone who isn't a supporter of Morecambe, bail Morecambe out...the same analogy here is why would someone bail out a failed restaurant with poor service...they quite simply wouldn't. Morecambe FC is a commercial enterprise. Let's not forget that to most town folk thats all it is....

Finally, I think you must have me confused CC. I don't post on very regularly, certainly not enough to complain about food.

There are also many of us who treat it first and foremost as our local football club, and as football fans we want to go and support it, watch a game and socialise with fellow fans. After all, it's still a large rectangular area of grass, just as it was at Christie Park! ;)

something similar happened to me after supporting the club for 60 years.

I got back from Tenerife on the last home game of the season, managed to get down to the Globe with 10 mins. to go, went to reception told them I had just got back, they said OK go in, just then a certain MD came down the stairs and refused me entry.

I knew then that the family club that I loved had gone forever under the current ownership !

Please don't tarnish the entire club with the crass attitude of one individual.....if you ever get to talk to people like Rod Taylor, Nigel Adams or even Peter McG you'll find them more than receptive to hearing ones thoughts about OUR club.

Tough that mate. Part of, or even most of , my reason for going to most games is my friends. I am sure if I was in that predicament one would bail me out, just like I would do with them.

As for getting 'credit' at the Club, I wouldn't hold my breath

Morecambe players giving me proper football some good some not so good.
Rod Taylor's attitude, is what this club is all about, mfc through and through.
Nigel Adams comes across as a fan as well as a director who will have a chat.
Jim Bentley open to talk to and mfc to the core
Graham Aimson giving us quality food week in week out
Meeting up with fellow fans home and away.
Barstaff /reception and club shop(when open) always happy to oblige.
Not forgetting Chesh keeping the ground in great condition.
This last month has been hard, and with people like the above being at the front of house, is why we will get the character of the club back.
