Reality Check

Reality Check

Postby Bryan » Thu Nov 17, 2016 12:25 pm

I know there are extenuating circumstances around the club right now but the almost deafening silence is not what is required. No one's got a Scooby doo what the hell is going on and all the time the club seems to be sinking deeper in the mire. Can't comment on the cup replay as I wasn't there but Downsy and Marky feeling negative about things should send danger signs out to all concerned with our much loved club. I respect both their opinions yet I get the sense that the club is just cocooned right now.

Ignorance isn't bliss for this Shrimps fan and I would think some sort of pow wow with Diego and Rod is a total must for most supporters right now. Just to settle everyone down. Are there funds for January? Or are we going to keep selling and releasing players instead? What is the short term future (never mind the long one) of Morecambe FC.

Having said all that we have to keep getting behind the lads but you worry if things go badly Saturday, where's it all going to end, and all the time we just hear nothing. The club should be handing out info like sweeties right now, even if legality prevents them going the whole way. They are in danger of totally losing contact with the fans - and by that I mean everyone, not just a select few closer to the club's internal than others.

I'm going to say it but sometimes I wonder just how much this club respects its hardcore fanbase. IMO not very much. For passionate fans like myself this is getting hard to bear. The club could make it far easier. This is a respected football league club (for how much longer?) and not a play thing, so lets hear some answers.

Great post, Bryan. I think all Shrimp fans realise that, in the current situation, there are many things that the club/board cannot put into print for legal or financial reasons. I wonder if it would be possible for the club to let us know what is happening up to a point. I would be quite happy if they said " These are the cold facts A, B, and C. We cannot comment, at this time, on speculation about D, E, etc." If we are then kept up to date about further developments as they occur that would satisfy most people.

If we are told definitely that we are in the brown and smelly then we could all think about how to get out of it. It's the uncertainty that is causing the problem.

I just hope the saying about no news being good news applies in our case. COYS

+1
I am also getting very concerned as to where we are going as a club. The board etc must sense the discontent amongst even the most loyal supporters, so why not deal with it before it's too late.

The issue with coming clean with the fans is that MFC has grown beyond being just a football club such as the hospitality and functions facilities. With the recent media coverage I'd imagine that this side of the business is already being effected and also suppliers will have got wind too, which might effect getting credit, causing further problems.

I think its just a case of sitting tight and hope that things pan out for the better. If Diago was panning on splashing the cash in January I'd imagine he would have already made a big thing of it already. I just hope he has enough money to keep the lights on and the bills paid at the moment.

The best thing we can do is to keep turning up for matches, spending money and getting behind the team.

we need to get together as fans and try to force some news from whoever is running the club, whether good or bad news we need something.i propose that fans do not enter the ground on saturday until we get a proper update on the situation.just imagine if the wages are late again i think players and staff will be walking away to new clubs this time and we will have to get youth team players to play league games.we have to do something NOW it is no use sitting on our hands and hoping things will work out ok!

I smell something bad about to happen here with these new owners ! If you look what happened to Blackburn with Venkys this seems a similar situation to what happened with them. This is the biggest 6 months in our history n if the club are only interested in letting more players go and not getting any better in then it's back to the conference we go next season 100% ! I know we're not half way through the season yet but I'd take staying up by 1 point on the last day upto now the way things are. I'd say stay upon goal difference but I think that's guna be impossible already

...and what good will that do...exactly sod all!

I agree that the fans need some news...be it good, bad or totally indifferent. But to protest on Saturday outside the ground is pointless and would only create media interest which is the last thing we need.

What is needed is a group of responsible fans (FCoM eytc) who have the respect of the Board and are able to communicate in a sensible way to seek urgent discussions to find out what the position is.

FCoM already have a meeting scheduled for next week, so I'd expect some news out of that meeting.

To wait until January could be too late, but the fans need a representative body to enter meaningful discussions with the Board as a matter of urgency....assuming that FCoM don't get the answers that they are seeking.

Well said CC!

Are things actually as bad as folk are making out? If the wages issue hadn't arisen last month, would we be in this state of anxiety? Unless it happens again over the next few months then I'd say don't panic.

That said, it would be good if FCOM get some info out of the club next week to feedback.

For me life back in the Conference would cost us more with the loss of sponsorship money via the FL which is quite considerable.

CC you are entitled to your opinion but we have to try to force some info out of the club,it is almost 2 weeks now since we got any sort of response.and that was surely due to pressure from fans on here and on other social media.we cannot rely on seances.

We cannot rely on information from any Directors below the club's owner either, I firmly believe they know marginally more than us.

What makes you say that? If I was in his position, I'd be keeping it quiet! As soon as he shouted that he'd be spending lots of cash, the asking price of any player would go up.

Yes, we might buy Tom Barkhuizen off PNE on the 2nd of January!

I didn't mean that he'd be waving wads from the balcony of the director's box but some positive noises regarding investments in playing staff for Jan would help boost the crowds and create a positive buzz. Instead he's had two PR disasters with not paying wages and then offloading our best player.

I'd be very pleasantly surprised if we bring in some quality in January. Realistically the best we should hope for would be to hang on to our loanees and some sort of replacement for TB.
