New 100 Club

For those barrack room lawyers who wish to question the law and their knowledge being more than that I would recommend the following reading for starters

http://www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk/pd ... -guide.pdf

you also have to comply with section 19.1 of the gambling act on setting up the society as well as its aim and objectives (includes "raffles")

But please don't take my word for it .... I've only been involved in lotteries for over 15 years including lotteries management for 13 of those (inc for 4 years at the time the largest football based lottery in the country) :D

I will be available to speak to any of you at the club tomorrow before the game, I would hope those who have the loudest voices on here especially may appear and speak to me in person

I suppose the questions that we'd like answers to are as follows;

How much do we as MFC contribute financially to the entire scheme on a weekly / monthly basis?

If we pulled out of this scheme, could we support a self funding lottery?

How much does the club benefit from the existing lottery?

How many people contribute to the lottery via our club?

This ill thought out idea needs to die a natural death, it's frankly a bit insulting to colin, who works hard on the existing shceme, expecting him to justify his existence to people who don't deserve an explanation, he needs support, not competition.

Agree fans should support the lottery BUT I've never believed in putting all ones eggs into the same basket.

The more and varied fund raising options our club can have the better.

For example some will not support a lottery on an anti gambling premise, but will support taking a share in the purchase of a match day supporters box at The Globe.

Sorry CC
but a raffle to win a ticket is gambling not a "share". It also has to comply with the gambling act as you are purchasing an entry to win a prize. Simple fact.

I am fully aware of why people don't gamble. As a society we have to have self exclusion policies the same as bookmakers and casinos. Something any promoter with any knowledge would tell you.

I look forward to our chat tomorrow and welcome any others into the conversation!

Not read all this thread but it sounds like an alternative lottery is a bit of a non-starter.

Fans want to support the club more though financially, and I get that. Why not though just spend a bit more money on the usual things like merchandise, beer, hospitality etc?

Another idea might be to have some sort of scheme where fans buy or contribute to buying merchandise, tickets etc that are then donated to local children, charity volunteers or other folk that might struggle to buy their own. This would create some positive PR and might just encourage new people to visit the Globe?

The dinning club could be a go'er, With agreed date to use it rather than a draw?

Morecambe FC is a business not a charity. It has just been bought by a group of very rich businessmen with presumably the intent of getting even richer. Why anyone would want to give them their hard earned cash for nothing guaranteed in return is a mystery to me. Why not fund raise for St Johns Hospice or some other deserving charity?

New ground watcher is of course correct, give the millionaire your cash and he will just spend less of h7is own money, and if you think a donation will buy you a say in things, ........

Thank you to Christine's Child for taking the time you have a chat. We may not agree on all however I felt it was positive to discuss a bit of the topic!

I've been called some things on Svs but this takes the biscuit.

As for the meeting let's say that Colin explained about where he was coming from and that I listened but didn't necessarily agree with his logic about a consortium purchasing a box and making it available by a selection process.
