Goalkeeper change

Goalkeeper change

Postby bill ding » Sat Nov 19, 2016 9:13 pm

Maybe controversial but I think it's about time Barry Roache stepped aside and give young Nizic a spell in goal . He seems to have become very static in goal and this punching of the ball when he could catch it boils my water . The times I have seen Dan in goal he has looked more than capable.

Agreed. Why do foreign goalkeepers punch rather than catch? He has been beaten too easily on a number of occasions this season. Too slow to get down to low shots. He is 34, over the hill?

Don't forget he recovered from a major injury as well. Seems to have lost confidence recently unfortunately

Couldn't agree more. He's been great but I think his time may have come. Another mistake today that killed the game for us. It's happening far too frequently.

He saves us more goals against and points than the mistakes he makes.

Agree with Chris, but it is frustrating...

It could have been 0-5 at half time yesterday if it hadn't been for Barry making some great saves.

There are a lot more positions in the team that need replacements before the goalkeeper.

yet again, certain people amongst us point the fickle finger of ''one way loyalty'', Baz is actually better than we can afford.

He's the busiest keeper in the football league! Made over 70 saves so far this season and still conceded 33 league goals! Averaging about 6 shots on target against us each match. Perhaps if we stopped the other teams taking pot shots all the time it might just help a little. Law of averages dictate he will be beaten at some stage while our wonderful (!) defenders watch on.

Easiest option to blame the goalkeeper. Roche has made errors this season, but has also made some great saves as well.
A winning team defends from the front, so the ten outfield players need to do their jobs too.
Tracking back is almost non existent with Morecambe these days, and until this is sorted out, we will continue to concede.

I agree that it is unfair to blame Baz who must be suffering from shell shock from all the shots he has to deal with but it would be nice to know that Nizic is at least pushing Baz for a start. Taking Baz out of the firing line and letting Nizic have a run in the side might benefit everyone though.

Or it may destroy Nizic's confidence before he's even got going? And destroy Barry's moral too?

His save in the first half was fantastic. We notice his errors (and I think it was an error for their second) but often overlook what he does superbly.

Not sure how getting a chance would dent his confidence? Strange comment that one. As for Roche, a kick up the arse may be better than being picked every week regardless.

Because a young lad conceding three every match for five games, then getting dropped again for the experienced player, may not actually be 'a good thing'. Fine, he *might* keep five clean sheets and go on to be the best keeper ever to play for Morecambe, but as posted elsewhere, Barry has had more shots to save than any other keeper in the league, so more than likely he'd concede goals. And conceding goals doesn't do much for a keepers confidence. Still strange?

So you would rather we continue to field an out of form goalkeeper which could cost us points?

Yeah because your arguement is all pie in the sky? We probably would concede as many goals but his distrubution may be quicker and that would be a big improvement from the Roche lump up the field. If the lad isn't up for the challenge then he shouldnt be a pro footballer! What have we got to lose? You seem to be another disciple of Bentleys managing expectation movement Keith.

I'm sure he loves not getting a look in! You think if Jim said to him , I'm sticking you in goal for the next match he would say , nah thanks gaffer , it could knock my confidence! some people...

How dare you slag our long serving goalkeeper off ! No matter how bad he's playing or how many of his faults have cost us goals you shouldn't write bad stuff about baz on here. This is the morecambe way

I'm saying that I don't think we're conceding because of Barry's mistakes, rather because of all the pressure that we're under. You could put Joe Hart in goal and we wouldn't keep a clean sheet at the moment. Yes, he has made errors, all keepers do. Bringing a rookie in to a struggling team is very unlikely to be a good move.

If you genuinely don't believe that confidence has anything to do with how well a footballer performs, then I think we've been watching different sports!

It actually isn't the morecambe way kendal, the morecambe way seems to be constantly slagging off loyal servants of the club and rejoicing in bad luck, what did the club do to you kendal, you can tell us......

Baz has had more shots on target and off target against him home and away than any other keeper in League 2.

Shots against

Home

League ave. per match - 10.6
Morecambe - 16.9

Away

League ave. per match - 10.8
Morecambe - 18.4

He gets a battering every game. Two fantastic saves in the first half yesterday.

Burnley have been completely dominated in the majority of their matches this season, that hasnt prevented Tom Heaton from keeping clean sheets, most notably at Old Trafford where he made 11 saves.

Due to study in Leeds, I don't attend games but keep up via here and Player etc and from what I've seen the problem is more in the amount of shots Barry faces, particularly from distance. I can't think of a goal this season (correct me if I'm wrong) from distance where I really thought Barry could have dealt much better with. Most of them have been really quality hits. To me that suggests sloppy defending allowing too much time for players to hit the ball. Even at this level players will often hit a pretty sweet strike when given enough time in the ball. I feel the shot stats back me up on this too but like I said, I can only judge from what I've seen on Player etc.
