Fans Club Open Meeting 01/12/16 - Morecambe Cricket Club

Postby Shrimps Trust » Thu Nov 24, 2016 8:25 pm

Over the course of the last few weeks, the Fans Club committee members have been discussing progressing Fans Club into a Supporters Trust.

After discussing this with Supporters Direct, the body who work with and help over 140 Supporters Trusts at clubs across the country, the committee believes that the fans as a whole will have a greater platform to engage with the current owners of Morecambe FC and The Football League if we establish our own Supporters Trust with the support of the wider Supporters Trust movement.

Over the last 2 months, following the sale of the club, the committee have reached out to the board as a whole to raise the concerns of supporters during this unsettling time - although this has proved largely unsuccessful.

To discuss the benefits and to hopefully approve the process of becoming a Supporters Trust, the committee is holding a meeting for all supporters of Morecambe FC at Morecambe Cricket Club (Woodhill Lane, Morecambe LA4 4NL) from 7pm on December 1st to take a vote from the wider membership to approve this process. We hope that a representative of Supporters Direct will also be in attendance to answer any questions regarding the formation of the Trust.

We implore as many Morecambe Fans, whether members of Fans Club or not to attend this meeting.

Should the formation of a trust be agreed, existing members will be enrolled into the new Supporters Trust with the existing membership benefits remaining unchanged.

Brilliant news. So pleased that FCOM are driving this forward.

In my view, this is possibly the most important meeting of supporters in the history of the club. The club is under serious threat of going out of existence or losing its Football League status or both. At best we'll have investment from an unknown group of Qatar-based investors that could be switched on and off like a tap. Either way the people who've always been here, who pay their money week in and week out need a serious collective voice. And this does it with legally binding powers.

Please support it and please be there. Moaning on here and Facebook is not enough. Now is the time to stand up.

I would urge fans to share links about this meeting on their own face book pages , the more publicity the better, I am copying your post to go on mine, Posh.

Basically, what posh said. I'm going to be attacking as many news outlets as I can today to push it in every way I can. We will have more stuff from supporters direct by Monday.

As mph says, please like and share on Facebook the details - I've posted it on the fans page on Facebook.

And if there's one thing I could ask every single one of us to do on Saturday is to back the side. It really isn't going to get any better any time soon so support this group of players. No booing, no negativity , pay the money and shout them home. Get on twitter and let them know we care and we will be shouting for them on Saturday.

Similarly and we know jim and the team read this - lads - no game for two weeks after this. Put everything into it, and we will back you. If there's a corner of something where you can gee us up a bit, do it. It'll be repaid. One Morecambe. Remember when we got smashed six nil by Dagenham and everyone stayed and celebrated how far we'd come? Well that spirit is still there. We just need to find it again. To be honest , it's the only thing we've got to turn this round with, but it can be done!

If I didn't live 300 miles away I'd be at the meeting but I'll be there in spirit and certainly hope it is really well attended with tons of support.

Maybe worth getting this broadcasted on FB or something so exiled fans can listen in.

Never been to a supporters' meeting but will try and attend this one. Time to take back some control of our football club.

Good stuff! I won't be there in person, but count me in! Facebook Live or Morecambe Player?

Shame it isn't in the club bar.

I was thinking same Keith, but I think a lot of people use the Cricket Club bar pre match now due to the more competitively priced drinks.

Also, the fact that our own bar still resembles nothing like a Football Supporters bar. Sadly.

I've never done it before, but how about creating one of those "Facebook Events" for this meeting?

Invite everyone on your Friends list who is a Morecambe fan, we then share it with ours etc etc??

Like I say, I've never created an "event" on there so not sure how to but if someone does and can "invite" me via that medium (not Mr Potato Head's type of "medium" ) I will share and share alike.

Let's get this moving and sorted !!

Edit: Just logged on Facebook and I see one is created. Thanks Mark !

For those of us who don't use fakebook and may not be able to make it (don't know as yet), I hope outcomes and proposals will be posted on here, or maybe a link to some more detail.

The issue with Facebook Live is that it's essentially done on a phone and will be hard to do. Where's Brian Campbell when you need him
