Sex abuse - Steve Walters

Sex abuse - Steve Walters

Postby Crazeenick » Fri Nov 25, 2016 10:23 am

I see that ex-Shrimp midfielder Steve Walters is one of the players who has come forward and waived their anonymity to say he was abused when at Crewe.

Shocking. But very brave of Steve (and all the others) to come forward and tell their stories. Especially Andy Woodward who started the ball rolling.

An ex-Newcastle player is the latest to come forward this morning.

Vital that this is all looked into and stamped out.

Puts our club's present difficulties into perspective......

Steve has been on Talk sport talking about it. Absolutely heartbreaking.

In yesterday's Radio 4 PM programme, it was suggested that this scandal could be 'huge', of Jimmy Saville proportions.

Very brave of Steve and the others to come forwards & speak out. Hopefully they will find it helps them psychologically by talking out, and by bring this out in to the open, protect other vulnerable young people.

The first disclosure of sexual abuse that I received was a young lad who had been abused years earlier. We worked through the abuse, his memories and how it had been impacting upon his life. In his last session with me he said "that night that I told you [about the abuse] was the first time I've ever slept an entire night". Hopefully Steve and the others will be sleeping more peacefully soon, if not already.

fair play to those coming forward , male ego and all that, think you'll now find more footballers coming forward now.

what touched me was one footballer today talking on the radio, was saying the hardest thing was telling his teenage kids, thinking they would think less of him, but got the full backing and respect he deserves for speaking out.

sadly I think this will be bigger than people think, just hope those guilty face the consequences .

For someone with a legal mind...

When people 'ask for other crimes to be taken in to account', that means they can't be tried for those crimes at a later date.

"Bennell was subsequently arrested by British police after he was released from prison in Florida and returned to the UK.
He was sentenced to a further nine years at Chester Crown Court in 1998, having pleaded guilty to 23 specimen charges.
A further 22 allegations were left to lie on his file."

Is that the same thing as 'taken in to account'?

If Bennell is accused of other crimes that weren't 'taken in to account' or 'on file' then presumably he could now be charged with other offences?

But if people who he abused, but aren't in the previous mentioned group, come forward publicly, then that may not happen if it prejudices a fair trial?

Quinny mentioned Tony on the way home from Crewe as the story broke, saying he had mentioned he had had problems but didn't say what. Now we know.

Just read his comments, and taken at face value, he's essentially accusing not just these footballers, but any man who's been abused as a child of being a wimp if he hasn't taken revenge in the form of direct physical action as an adult. Utterly indefensible.

Playing Devil's Advocate, and applying some amateur, 'cod', psychology, could he be being aggressively defensive because he was abused as a child, and either he did beat up the person responsible and wants to get his defense in early, or he either did or didn't, but whichever he still hasn't come to terms with it, but doesn't want to admit it? Either way, his comments are those of a complete twot, but in the latter case he really needs to talk to someone.

Amazing that someone with such strong homophobic views is so proud to tell everyone that he's such a huge cock.

Bristow has apologised (too little, too late) and been dropped by Newcastle United from a forthcoming darts event.

Meanwhile, former Newcastle player Derek Bell has given an interview to The Guardian over the abuse he suffered.

It's a disturbing read.

As of this evening, a quarter of police forces are currently investigating abuse allegations within football. Chelsea have been accused of paying a victim off but with a confidentiality clause. An MP is calling for any clubs that may have paid compensation with confidentiality clauses to "rip them up" so that victims can come forward. A further allegation suggests that many of the paedophiles "knew each other".

Wonder how much deeper this awful situation will go?
