I'd recommend to have a go with the semi-colon; you can use them often and no-one challenges whether you've used them correctly or not. They're the super-stealth weapon of the grammar world.
There's only two occasions when you need an apostrophe: possessive and apologetic; don't use them when you are writing a plural; please.
