Rushden & Diamonds' stadium set to be demolished over the next few months...

Built at a cost of £30million in 1993!

Started as the dream of an ambitious Chairman and club owner but when he pulled the plug it was a speedy road to its end.

Only went once to the stadium and at the time dreamt of our ground being similar.

Wonder what it's build costs would be today, certainly considerably more than we could ever have afforded or I suspect would have wanted.

Two of the best mfc goals ive seen, were scored there by Wayne Curtis, two stunning volleys on a cold tuesday night coming back from two down.

can't see how it's a major fire risk since it was built in the 90s well past post the Bradford Fire disaster and old wooden stands.

We was once 3-0 down at half time and ended up drawing 3-3 and we battered them. Mark Shirley ripped them to pieces

3-0 down after half an hour and coasting they were.
Then Burnsy playing right back skipped past a couple and hammered a cross into the near post just before half time to make it 1-3.
Second half, Shirls tore them a new one, scored a superb 30 yarder and we came back to 3-3 and went barmy.
Great days, shame as it was a nice ground. The Peter De Bank Terrace and the curved roof of the away end!

Didn't they try and sign Mark Shirley shortly after?

Rings a bell....

Derelict... target for vandals and arsonists... a shame but makes sense to raze it really.

Yep Brain Talbot offered a pile of cash whichever we accepted but Shirls wouldn't go as we were part time and he had a decent job.
Hence he left us for Accy when we went full time not long after!
Class act Mark Shirley.

He was class indeed, signed from Lancaster City of course shortly after we played them in the twice replayed FA Cup tie of 1996/97 season

Seeing Nene Park pulled down is as big a football tragedy as the North Stand being felled.

Makes you worry that the Globe could have the same fate if we aren't careful.

R&D averaged 3500-4000 during their brief stint in the Football League.

it's concrete and Tin cladding how's that gonna burn to the ground?

imagine trying to burn down our away end and home end, even the PMG stand would struggle to spread from a kitchen fire.

there must be a near by Rugby club or somebody who could come to some sort of deal.

I'm sure there are still other materials that are of concern to the authorities and of interest to potential arsonists!

If there was any interest from anyone, it would have been in there by now. Brown field site. Knock down. Planning permission for lots of houses.

Bought a pair of Doc Martins there one visit. I think I've still got them!
