Board agree to sell to Cala

Radio Lancashire have just confirmed that a club statement just issued has confirmed the sale to Cala subject to EFL approval.

Can't say i'm happy in fact quite the opposite.

The entire Board will resign.

With the current board unwilling or unable to provide the funds required then there was no option.

I still think we have to have an open mind and see what transpires.

What good is a Board that doesn't have a pot to piss in and that are clearly out of ideas about how to take the club forward? The club has been ran in to the ground because the wrong people were in jobs that were too big for them and the good guys were pushed aside to accomodate this.

The new guy obviously has his own ideas and doing away with the same old faces may be the best thing that happens. It may also be another nail in the coffin. Time will tell.

I keep looking at the photos Gnasher put up yesterday and can not help feeling that that was my Morecambe and everything since Wembley has been a slow death. I miss that Morecambe and its gone forever. Lets hope this new era can touch those heights of passion and support.

After Cala was arrested in Italy for having €6,000 of counterfeit money and trying to spend some of it, was he convicted?

Not that it matters. According to the FA's 'Fit & Proper Person' test, being a criminal who tried to pass off counterfeit money wouldn't preclude a person from becoming an owner, so the conviction or otherwise won't bother them.

The Premier League has tighter restrictions than the rest of the Football League and Football Conference. In general, a businessman will fail the test if:

They have power or influence over another Football League club
They hold a significant interest in another Football League club
They become prohibited by law from being a director
They are filing for bankruptcy
They have been director of a club while it has suffered two or more unconnected events of insolvency
They have been a director of two or more clubs of which, while they have been director, has suffered an event of insolvency

In fact, looking at that again, even Peter Sutcliffe would be able to own a football club

What's done is done - probably. Best we can hope for in the short term is that Cala pays the wages, covers the overheads and lets Jimbo and Ken do their jobs without meddling. And leaves the pies alone.
I'm a Manc in origin and United are my birth team, so I'm well used to loving the team and hating the owners. The Glazers have had the sense not to interfere with the playing side of their business; hopefully our new owners will be of the same mindset.

It's the end of MFC as we remember it from Christie Park, memories we'll never forget, but I don't think that's a bad thing in the circumstances. The financial situation has always been red but it's been propped up by various directors for which we can only ever be thankful.

But, the new ground didn't bring the expected rewards and money was tighter. We clung on to Christie Park, you know you did despite what you say. It was never going to be the same, it had to change, but it didn't change enough. The ground is faceless, no character to it. It's bigger, everyone who stood on different sides of Christie Park are even further apart and the lofty even loftier.

I shall continue to dig out old photos but that's all they are, old photos. Time to move on. It's happening whether you like it or not.

For me, it didn't die then. But it got cancer. And repeatedly refused to take any of the medicine that was offered to treat it. Now, we're facing major surgery. Perhaps that's the only way forward? Or perhaps we aren't strong enough to survive the anaesthesia?

So,given that administrators would have had to be called in anyway with there being no money for players, what other option would you have taken? At the moment, Cala is the ONLY option to keep the club in the league (and keep the club at all). Like it or not, we have to support him if we want to keep the club.
