Time to move?

Time to move?

Postby Christies Child » Wed Mar 15, 2017 12:29 pm

Following my experience of the Omega last night, maybe it is time to take a radical look at the entire layout of the stadium from the fans perspective.

Maybe it is time to move the home support to the present away stand and vice versa as undoubtably the noice generated by the Bay is far superior than the Omega. This would also require that the seated away support be repositioned in the current home seated section and the home support moved to the current away section but that shouldn't be an obsticle to any move. Away coaches could be parked behind the Omega and the current traffic flow that is directed behind the Omega be redirected in front of the mainstand to its right.

This would also assist the police on match days to seperate away fans from home fans particularly on the occassions of larger crowds at big games. To date there has never been any major problems but that doesn't mean that it will never happen.

Any move would also be of benefit of those who use the car park due to its close proximity to the Bay stand.

Catering wise the current Bay catering outlet could become purely a selling area for beer etc whilst food could be provided by a catering van positioned alongside the side of the Bay stand. This move would also partially resolve the issue of the need for a cover as a catering van could provide an awning to protect its customers from the elements. The area behind the Bay doesn't experience the rain as much as the Omega for my observation.

If there is the will to make the match day experience better for the current Omega patrons then the club should look at all possiblities to generate a better matchday atmosphere and satisfy those who have issues with the Omega at the moment.

No doubt the above suggestion will generate comments but what would others suggest.... :?: :?: :?:

Have you tried to walk down the Bay alleyway with someone walking in the other direction?

If the area behind the Bay was purely to sell beer would the issue arise as entry to the stands is from the ends... :?: :?: :?:

Was just thinking same.

A few years ago when Burton got promoted after their win at The Globe I had a few mates in the away end (Burton fans) and went to join them in the celebration after the game.

The gap between the back wall and the stand was scarily narrow. As has been well documented elsewhere over the years.

Put it this way, there's no way I'd like to be behind THAT stand in a big crowd.

match day experience

Very important word that, experience. It's not just a football match and the difference in experience between main stand and Omega is too vast for it to be acceptable.

I can't see the powers that be i.e. the licencing authority/police allowing ends to be changed. The Bay stand has a large coach parking area which the home end for obvious reasons doesn't. OK not many clubs bring many coaches but when Newcastle came the police wouldn't have wanted a couple of thousand Toon Army walking from the Bay Stand coach park along the front of the PMG stand to get in the Omega Stand.

I would rather improve the Omega Stand end.

If another location for the ambulance could be found then that space between the PMG Stand and The Omega Stand could be filled in with a proper building incorporating a bar and fast food restaurant. It could have a connecting door into the PMG so that staff could access it if required.

Some form of semi-permanent or permanant roof is needed behind the Omega Stand, stretching from the back wall of the stand to the perimeter wall. As I mentioned to CC and Gnasher last night, the vast majority of away ends at other grounds we visit incorporate a covered concourse. Perhaps the long term aim is to extend the Omega Stand terrace far enough back to cover the concourse so it would surely make sense to start that extension work by providing the structural improvements to that which would cover the existing concourse area?

Maybe, but you still have to walk in, then come back out again, what about the visit to relieve yourself?

Apart from the fact that the facilities would be much worse because of the rear wall. it holds less people , the views are worse and it has less disabled seating ,it's a cracking idea CC .

Ha ha! You come out with some harebrained ideas don't you CC. How on earth would swapping to the Bay Radio Stand and its horrendously narrow concourse improve the matchday experience? Sell no food either and give our business to an external catering company too.
