Confirmed by Tim Padfield on Radio Lancashire that both Staff and Players have been paid by Abdul..let's hope that his excellent news is followed by some positive news with regards to the buy out.

More details on Radio Llancashire FM104.5 at 5.30pm and tonights Sports show at 6pm.

Also Radio Lancashire will be doing full match coverage tonight on Player and hopefully Radio as well.

Abdul. WOW. I think the jury was out on his involvement in all this but if that's right and he is a man of means and wanting to get involved in a positive way then it could be tremendous news!

I'd heard that around half the non-playing staff were refusing to work .... understandably so.

Something had to give before weekend otherwise the match on Saturday could have been in jeopardy.

Great news.

I have my suspicions has Abdul paid just so he can claim to be the owner and say Diego hasn't done anything. This then means if Abdul is the owner he can sell to cala as it looks like it was Abdul trying to do the cala deal since Burnard says he won't sell to him and Diego didn't wasn't a sale.

Great news for the staff and players, nothing resolved though.

Let's take it one step at a time. With everyone being paid we can see out this month at least (which looked doubtful).

We've had more games at home than any other month this season.

The maths is fairly simple - We've had 4 home games in March:

Yeovil 1433
Newport 1080 (of which half probably got in free with the 2 - 4 - 1)
Accy 1506
Mansfield 1497

Let's say we have averaged 1000 paying visitors at £20 per home game = £20K x 4 = £80K

The wages on their own are in the region of £150K a month without all the overheads.

We need 2200 to 2500 fans every game to make the difference up.

£150k a month wages for the playing side or whole business? Rod Taylor is on record as saying that the corporate side of things runs at a minor profit therefore if you take him at his word then the wages for that side of the business shouldn't be affected.

How much do you anticipate the wages for the playing squad are per month? Weren't we told that the solidarity payment received from the EFL should have covered the wages for the rest of the season?

There is the monthly receipt of circa £40,000 from the EFL for sponsorship./TV to add to the gate receipts but it is grim reading.

Afraid even that's dreamland Marky. Need to consider season tickets and all the free kids. Taking half the figure for Newport, we end up with an average of 1,244/game, less c.500 season tickets (rough estimate) less say 100 kids for each game, you're looking at 650 paying customers, so down to £52K. Easy to see why we're short on funds to pay wages, when other bills also have to be met, especially the tax man. (Although if we don't pay the staff and players, that's no income tax or NIC, so only the VAT man to worry about!)

The whole lot, Shrimpy. I would guess £80K for the playing staff?? We've had some long trips as well recently - Orient twice, Crawley, Newport and Plymouth... not much change out of £20K there either

Yes I considered I was being on the generous side, Phil, but as GS says there are inputs from other revenues.

Mainly pointing out that even 4 home games in a month doesn't pay the wages, or certainly not those 4 anyway

Those crowd figures just shows that the town doesn't have the love for a football league side :(

Well not one that's lost 13 out of 20 home games this season. That statistic suggests the gates have held up quite well.

Like I said then, it's unfair to quote the whole companies wages and then expect the "football revenue" to pay the entire wage bill as we've been told that the corporate side pays for itself in effect. The money generated from gate receipts, season ticket sales, merchandising and everything else should be covering the wages of the players and coaching staff.

Perhaps.

I don't have the stats to back this up but I wouldn't mind betting I'm not far off. I bet there's not a Football League club that's surviving on gates of less than 2,500 without some decent investment from the board or major sponsorship.

Clubs at our level – unless they have decent attendances (I’d say probably over 4,000 average) will rely on investment from the board or good sponsorship from local companies to keep competing in the Football League.

Most will run at a ‘loss’ each season unless they regularly sell players or have a good cup run. That will be covered (and more - at successful clubs) by that investment.

We haven’t had that level of investment for some years and will need it in future to survive in the league.

I love this word 'investment'. In the real business world you invest in building something, maybe extending your shop, stocking a new product, adding a cafe etc. etc. with the intention of recuperating your outlay in xx years, meanwhile increasing your turnover and profitability.

Investment in a football club to most people, seems to be throwing money at it (usually players) that isn't realistically ever going to be seen again.

Nearly all 'live' beyond their means and often fail when a sugar daddy gets bored or finds a new trinket to play with.
