They tested "kick ins" as opposed to throw ins some years ago in Non League too.

Like kick ins, hopefully nothing will come of this sin bin bloody nonsence.

Just employ the same rules as Rugby Union for me, only the captain can talk to the ref, any dissent or show of displeasure with a decision is punished but the reason is explained to the captain, both for the decision and the punishment.

I agree with this. I've never had anyone give me a good reason as to why players are allowed to surround refs and talk to them the way they do.

I know some refs are poor but when it comes down to it that's all we've got. There aren't a bunch of high quality referees hiding somewhere just waiting for League 2 to come knocking.

For too long players have shown a total disrespect for the referee yet in rugby they abide by the refs decision...why not in football...

As for the captain being the only one having the on field right to question the referee....too right

Same rules apply in kids mini rugby, so they grow up knowing how to act and what's acceptable!

Excellent idea, but I would also like to see those offences that the commentators refer to
as 'taking one for the team' punished with more than a yellow card. Ten minutes in the sin bin might cut down on these cynical challenges, which destroy the essence of the game.

If I'm really honest I would like to see a straight red for those offences anyway !

I think it could be a good move. I also think getting the referees mic'd up would improve the standard of refereeing and allow everyone to hear what's going on, giving the fans an insight into what the ref is thinking.

In hockey, there's green, yellow, red cards.

A green card is 'warning' like a yellow in football.
A yellow is a 'sin bin', minimum of five minutes but as long as the umpire decides.
A red, is a red.

Might be worth trying that system as it would give the ref more options?
