O/T Walking football at Halton Centre

O/T Walking football at Halton Centre

Postby morecambewba » Sun May 28, 2017 11:22 am

A weekly session started late last year and there are now on average 8-10 taking part each week. We play for about 45 minutes on the grass pitch(boots recommended) or on hard plastic if numbers 8 or below.
Its a good work out, not taken seriously, and a good chance to make new friends.
At present this is the only location offering a chance to play in North Lancashire though i believe Garstang and Milnthorpe are trying to set sessions up. The next closest location is Ingol playfootball which is run by PNE foundation.

Sessions are normally on wednesdays but this week only it will be
Thursday 1st June 12.30pm-1.30pm

From Wednesday 7th June all sessions will be 10am-11am.

There is a charge of £3. For further information contact the centre on 811436

I also attach a link to Walking Football United which gives up to date info on rules, competitions etc

Sounds great morecambewba. Really interested in this. Is there a minimum age limit? I'm 46.

Just looking to play a bit of football for enjoyment and not having to run has always been my preferred way of doing things. :D

Walking football was initially started for men and women 50 and over but i think most locations are flexible.
A Halton the age range is open. I dont know the exact age of everyone but i guess we have players from mid 40s into their 60s.

I am interested in this, might give it a go (I am 58).

Not played football for around 30 years, apart from kickarounds with my two sons when they were younger :D

I started playing 2 years ago at Preston and been playing nearly every week since. Love it.The sessions at Halton are ideal for anyone who hasnt played for awhile. not taken seriously and a good laugh. as played on grass its better to bring some boots.

I might fancy a go at this, are boots a necessity? I'm 62 and had 2 spells playing for Halton in the North Lancas league, the first one was 40 years ago :o

boots are not a necessity .we play on grass and it helps to wear boots if pitch has had a bit of rain. but some just wear trainers. . would advise shin pads though

Is there any places where people are asking for people younger to play, like 5, 7 or 11 side (not walking) and not professional

Thanks morecambewba. I'll be along there today. I'll have to keep an eye on my 8 year old at the same time but it shouldn't be a problem. Is there a cost to cover hire of the pitch?

good turnout of 12 today and omegaterraceroar made his debut(and scored) from shrimpsvoices. the games seem to get better each week and more enjoyable.
as half term the community centre was full of families and we had some spectators!! they were quite impressed with the standard and they are going to spread the word..
i had never heard of this centre until i was told about walking football. Quite impressed with how much goes on there..even got walking netball now.

Would love to have a go but arthritis now in both knees is a wee bit of a handicap HOWEVER I could be useful as a goalkeeper offering very little space for anyone to score against me....

Thoroughly enjoyed today's walking football session @HaltonCentre

Great bunch of blokes who made me feel very welcome even though I turned up late and took an age to get my socks and boots on, apologies.

I think I was the youngest one there but the other fellas certainly have some real skill and quality that was a joy to see.

Thank you very much morecambewba for the heads up on this, can't wait for next week.

good to meet you steve and knew you would like it
we have had a few new faces recently and the standard of football is rising. I thought that was one of the best games so far.
for anyone else interested the sessions will be from 10-11 every wednesday from next week.
